Hey all,
I am considering a 50-point direct add-on at Riviera. We are resale owners at Poly currently. Reason I'm looking to add-on direct is to buy a 50-point to be able to at least experience Riviera and any other new DVC resorts to follow (not worried about getting to blue card as of yet).

My question is - would the purchase include 50 points now + 50 points on 8/1/21 when my August Use Year starts? Or if I bought direct now would I not get my first allotment of points until 8/1/21?

Thanks all!

When buying direct at a resort still in active sales like RIV, you get current UY points. We are in Aug 2020 UY so that will be the first set.

The MFs are prorated by calendar year so you pay from date of purchase. Right now, it’s be about 9 months of the 2021 dues.

Thank you very much great info! $201 per point does not seem terrible, far cry from what I paid for Poly resale but its appealing in a number of ways. thanks again!

Yes, you could back date within the last 12 months. So yes, you can buy August 2020 use year. As soon as you return your contract, you'd have 100 points available as of August 1, 2021 (assuming you bank the 2020).

We still don't know if owning Riviera direct will get you into any new resorts coming. Unless I'm missing something.

The documents do not limit RIV points from future resorts.

Couldn't you just add direct SSR and stay at Riviera? Save some $. Is 7 mo. booking at Riviera difficult?

We are a family of 5 so SSR studios are no good for us honestly. I would rather spend at Riv than the other direct resorts w 5 studios

You can but 7 month bookings are proving difficult, especially if you want to get SV studios. Those are going during home resort time pretty quickly.

We keep going back and forth about adding on another set of direct points. I want them to be used at RIV with my other points and the BLT ones I bought resale cant and it is frustrating.

Thanks again all I think we are going to do it just put in a request for a 55 point add on :)

Why 55 points?

I don't see any way to use that every year cleanly for and 1-2-3-4 night combination

However, if you bank and/or borrow for 110, then I see 5 nights @ 22 points per night (studio) as the best option

With the cost of RIV so high and the annual dues so high, you will be best served using them all at RIV

Sure, but any studio at RIV right now is hard to book, however when the next DVC is built it will get easier, but the tower studios and standard studios will always be hard to book at 7 months

I would encourage you too dive deep into the 2022 point charts for RIV and look at the different room combinations and how many days those points will book. You might need 57 vs 55 to get that room for the days you want to stay and then I’d add a couple points more if the charts shift. One time use points can only be used at 7 months. Plan for worst case type of room (preferred premium) in case you miss booking at the 11 month mark and all the standard views are gone.

you are spot on with this I am going to calculate. The goal is to get a studio for 3 nights in Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb to supplement my bigger Poly contract. Thanks for the advice everyone!

We are not DVC yet but are considering the same combo. I was thinking of purchasing the minimum number of points at the Riviera and then doing resale points at the poly to equal the total points we want, 200-250. Would there be a downside to this?

If theoretical future resort is your goal, I would wait. Disney has been very clear with RIV that they are willing to make new rules. There's no reason whatever future property has to take points 1:1 or even take DVC1 points at all.

Oh, and I'd say that future resort is 5 years off, now that almost all construction has stopped. I'm sure Disney will be willing to take your money then, if you like that future resort. Future resorts aren't really in the budget at the moment.

If all you want to do is try RIV, you could do it for the closing costs on that contract. Locking into RIV, which is resale restricted, is a very expensive way to try out a hotel.

Not really as long as you want to stay at RIV. We own there and love it. I even just added on a resale contract there, restrictions and all!

The only thing to remember is that the Poly resale points will not be good at RIV but RIV direct can be used everywhere.

If RIV is what you want for part of your points, do it soon as it’s going up to 150 minimum for new buyers.
