I was just reading on another post about www.portorleans.org and we are staying for our second time in September.

Last time, we had five people, we had an adult on the hide away (she is short) and my husband slept with our daughter ( he is a VERY heavy sleeper and has to be hooked up to an apnea machine.) I slept with our 4 year old son. I didn't rest well, afraid he was going to fall off the bed. He has autism and is more like a 2 year old. He is in a twin bed now, but has a railing on his bed and I often see him up against it.

Can someone explain what a "Baby cot" is and has any one here actually used or asked for the bed rails? Wow, if that was an option, I wish I had known about it. If someone has pictures or has used it, I would GREATLY appreciate any information you can give me on it.

Oh you should have definitely called housekeeping to ask for bedrails! I'm pretty sure they are available at all the resorts on request. The "baby cot" is usually a pack-n-play, although I've seen pics of a travel type crib, but either way not good for a 4 year old.

I usually ask housekeeping for 2 bedrails, as my son is an "active" sleeper (he rotates & travels *all* over the bed.) I usually sleep w/ him, but I want to make sure that he's safe if I spend part of the night in the other bed w/ my DH.

oh wow! That is Kevin! He is all over the place, and even sleep walks through the house. Which is why we didn't put him on the pull out. So I just tucked in the covers really tightly around him and I slept very lightly. LOL

Thank you thank you thank you! Wow, I could kick myself for not knowing they provided this! I knew about the pack and play, but yes, he is a bit to long for it.

 You can add the bedrail request to your reservation now and just be sure to mention the request when you check-in.

Have a great trip!! :)

I am wondering if we could use those bed rails on the pull out. We are going as a party of 5 again, this time with an 19 year old neice. I could put the 8 year old and 19 year old in one bed, and then put Kevin on the pull out, and still use the rails because honestly!, that pull out is very narrow. I know I wouldn't be comfy on it and there is no way my husband could fit on it.

Kevin has never slept through the night and is a very light sleeper. So it make more sense to put him in a bed by himself so the other person isn't waking him.

hmmmmm

LOL

That's a good thought about the trundle - wonder how the bed rails would fit...we pulled it out to look at it, but never used it, so no idea.

Well, at least you could give it a try! :)

I don't think you could fit rails to one of the trundles, but I've never tried so I don't know how they attach. The main beds at POR are very high, so falling out would be a concern.
