Rivers of Light opening delayed

1) Alas, I do think it signifies mismanagement.
2) I have built nine manufacturing plants in four countries, and ALL came in on-time, and all but one within-budget.
. . . they had to
. . . if they were delayed, I missed deadlines at auto assembly plants
. . . and the penalty was $35,000 per minute for line stoppages
. . . the only non-budget plant was due to government interference (and, our customer reimbursed us for the added costs)
3) You don't have to be a genius to bring projects in on-time, just aware and involved.

I agree with this 100% x 10... I don't care how some of the Disney apologists are on this thread and how they may want to spin it, this is the most accurate comment yet... And I don't always agree with you either, but this one I do. :thumbsup2

Right... because if we don't think it's mismanagement (even if that belief is based on some level of real life experience of projects that involve implementing new technologies) the only explanation is that we are "Disney Apologists".

I find it particularly laughable to be lumped into that grouping given I'm usually criticized for being too negative and harsh about Disney.

So what does everyone think about the media day for ROL not being cancelled? That's on April 18th?

Apparently they are still having a media day on the 19th. It's uncertain whether or not rivers of light will be running.

1) Just think of the NEGATIVE PR if the cancelled a media day.
2) Whew !
3) I don't know how they would SPIN that to the media-shareholders-WallStreet.

The media day isn't just for rivers of light it's also for the rest of the new night turn entertainment and special happenings.

Not sure name calling is necessary when someone disagrees with you...we all have experiences that lead us to our own opinions and can agree to disagree like adults.

It's clear to me that whatever issue came up wasn't something that could be predicted and also wasn't an easy fix (given its been delayed more than a month), it would also be uncharacteristic of Disney to announce a specific opening date if they had any reason to believe it wouldn't open on that date...they haven't announced opening dates for Soarin, frozen ever after, etc. only given a season they will open for this very reason. Call me an apologist if you want I just see this as a more complex situation than its being presented as.

Not sure where I read it but somewhere, post delay-announcement, there was a description of the media preview event and it was worded there would be a Rivers of Light PRESENTATION, not preview. Maybe the reason for the dropped walls is to show off all that is done with some kind of presentation. Way better to do that than cancel altogether.

I've done the same things many times for an international corporation and agree with you 100%! Your 3rd point is certainly the thing that ties everything together and it seems like that's something that Disney is really lacking.

I don't believe I named anyone thereby lumping them into any group including you. In truth, you weren't even the one I had in mind. I've read many of your posts in many other threads and certainly would not label you as an apologist.

I agree with you that we can all agree to disagree; however I don't believe I did any name calling. I guess I don't see the term Disney apologist name calling anymore than I would a Disney naysayer. There are simply some who feel Disney can do no wrong and others who feel Disney can't do any right.

They will also show off things that are ready like the tree of life awakening, safaris, and streetmosphere.

I don't feel there were any "Disney apologists" in the last few pages of this thread but I could be wrong.

Yes, I get all that ... was just bringing up something I saw that referred to that portion of the event as a presentation and not a preview.

Not sure how Disney does it usually, but I think it's quite common for media events in generalvto be done well ahead of actual launch.

The famous example is the iPhone demonstration where Steve Jobs literally had to memorize a specific path of events to demonstrate the phone's features otherwise it would have crashed...

They were far from certain even that was going to work. Knowing what's known now, it's interesting re-watching that reveal. You can see the hangovers amongst Apple staffers, yet Steve Jobs managed to look completely at ease.

I agree. I know enough to know that my schedules are educated guesses. Especially when working with new products and technologies. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

Sorry bro-- this line screams "anyone who thinks that problems can arise that are beyond managements control are apologists".

Own it.

My understanding is there are operational issues with the RoL show but they may be able to mange and hand hold so to speak a media day show but it is not ready for prime time with multiple shows a night. Not sure why specifically, that's all I've heard.
