Rivers of Light opening delayed

We are going the week of October 17th. I was checking the park calendar and they still have Animal Kingdom closing at 5 p.m. While I realize they don't have an official opening date yet, you would think that they would be certain it would be up and running by October.

The don't know when it will be ready.

First off, why are you skeptical of the sunken barge statement? And secondly that sounds a lot like they are going to throw together some half done stuff with the new jungle book movie to create something to have in the between. That's lazy. And if it is indeed the case that they put forward an interim show then matters much be much worse than I originally anticipated with this delay.

Because WDWNT is the only place saying that I haven't heard that anywhere else. wdwnt also claimed the show wouldn't be delayed and the show would have previews in early April which was false of course. And from everything I've seen yes matters are not good with this show right now. They are hoping to have it done by July but who knows.m

Ahhh gotcha. Ok then. Crazy how just a few weeks ago this was about to roll out and animal kingdom was about to transform and then just a few short weeks later we have come to we don't even know if this show can be ready by July lol crazy

Going off what I've heard now. Disney is weighing all of their options right now. This problem is with the wireless control system, not something that's just off the shelf. There was never any sinking floats.

That Podcaster would be Jim Hill. With the ongoing techincal difficulties I'm not so sure that will happen because they need to just get the show to work first.

I know he isn't a reliable source, but I can see them using this down time to work Jungle Book in. Since the show relies on projection I can see a portion switch to have the "tiger" float come out and then Bagheera talks about the jungle the elephants creating the jungle, cue the elephant float. Then a talk about the red flower (one of the flower floats with red lighting) for a nice Smokey bear touch. I don't think this is the reason for the delay tho.

From what we've seen there are 2 storyteller boats, 4 animal floats, 1 main flower and 4 smaller flowers and I haven't seen them in the love pictures yet but also possibly many smaller lanterns. I can see control issues popping up but I wonder if they contracted out the control system or attempted it in house.

As for a barge sinking, I don't see that happening. Proper design should prevent, even on the flowers which pump water through them, they should have multiple ballast tanks so even if a leak develops in a few it would stay afloat and just list.

Based on the latest I've heard there might be some truth to the jungle book rumor.

There is supposed to about 100 small lanterns floating.

So watching the preview something hit me and I've been trying to go over past pictures and videos to verify. I don't think we have seen the centerpiece barge yet, the lotus flower with the tower. The preview showed the four smaller flower which we have previously seen working. We have also definitely seen the animal and storyteller floats but the large centerpiece I haven't seen yet.

Also I noticed during the preview videos that it almost seemed like they were having trouble completing the center water screen. Since it is created from two side beams instead of a center fan I expect there to be a small drop in the center but it seemed quite large during much of the video (mostly the first half it was much better in the second half.) I suspect that since it is two streams that you can't have them high powered enough that they would collide in the center to for a perfect arch since that would create a scattering in the center which might mess with the projections.

So I guess we will miss it after looking forward to it!!!!!!!!!! Our trip is scheduled for last week of May and its scheduled to open late May which in Disney terms means June or July lol. I guess that means another trip in the planning.....

Just found this thread and wanted to update you guys-
I spoke with a guy that did the some of the wiring and work on Rivers of Light and the Tree of Life, and apparently the corner seating had something to do with the delay, that and something about wind I can't quite remember. Oh, and none of the barges sank.

wdwnt also claimed the show wouldn't be delayed and the show would have previews in early April which was false of course

1) Glad I am not part of wdwnt.
2) I have said for some time the show was not working, and would not /could not open on-time.
