Does anyone remember seeing a definitive statement on when the Rivers of America will be drained? I know it will be in the spring, but I've read anything from the beginning of January to mid-January. Refilling estimates have an even bigger span ranging from beginning of March to the middle of May. :confused3 I get that DLR might be reluctant to disclose the exact dates since it might then make guests reluctant to make plans during that time, but why let it leak that they are draining ROA at all, in that case?

Even though its a pretty major closure it is still what they consider routine.

They don't seem to be in the habit of hiding closures to make sure people come anyways, on the contrary they are usually pretty good about putting the information out so people can plan around that sort of stuff.

I don't think they would want to deal with people that spend a lot of money to come expecting stuff to be open and then find out when they get here its closed.

Dates change on a fairly frequent basis, but they are seem to be pretty good at getting that out once it is definitive (stuff even opens back up ahead of the scheduled time on occasion)

As to why such a long time frame for when the might refill it... I would assume with maintenance on a scale as huge as this that they don't have a definitive deadline on when it will be finished until the river is drained and they can actualy see the extent of the work that needs to be done and/or get a feel for how long it will take once they actually get started.

If its like refilling the lake at Paradise Pier they had to coordinate with the city and county Water depts so they might not be able to set a date until they get closer and get it coordinated with everyone else involved...

Of course a lot of that is my opinion... Just keep checking the schedule online, that seems to be the most accurate place to get info!

Dates definitely change on those refurbishment lists! :goodvibes We've all seen that over the last few months as we've anxiously awaited any sign of water in the lake! I know it will be harder to estimate when the ROA will be re-filled. What I'm really hoping for is the date when it will be drained. :)

I thought I'd seen the date it will be drained written in an article at some point, but I can't find it now. I'm hoping someone else will have a better memory!

It sounds like a lot of people think it might be happening closer to the beginning of the month. I have read people confirming that they have F! priority seating on the 3rd if that helps at all...

Unintended pun?

I do not think they have "let it leak". It seems to have been reported only by MiceAge which means Al Lutz has used his inside sources. The leak was not intentional I believe.

Jan 3rd is a Sunday, I'm sure the drainage will take place after that. :)

FWIW, a CM ("Westsider") at another forum thinks the RoA refurb will start on Monday, January 4. (link)

Hope this helps. :earsboy:

Oh dear! :rotfl2: Yes, definitely unintended pun!

That does help! :thumbsup2 I have a friend who told me last night they were thinking about a trip at the end of January. I told her about the draining of ROA and since Tom Sawyer's Island isn't something she wants her family to miss, she was thinking early January might work. I'll let her know the draining might be as early as January 4th and keep my eyes on the refurbuishment lists.

Thanks you all for your input!

I remember that the OC Register has an article about the Paradise Pier refilling that mentioned something about the RoA closure, as well as the Disney Parks official Blog about the Bay refilling, so I would take a look at those since I remember seeing something about dates in there as well. Good luck!
