Riveria closeout

My husband dismisses staying at RIV. In his mind it can’t compete with BWV loctaion. He also loves VGF. That’s his fav.

RIV seems a combo of what he loves about BW and GF.

I’ve told him RIV is right up his alley and tried to explain all the reasons he might enjoy more than expected. The rooms are really nice, on the bigger side, easy access to the amenities, skyliner, easy parking and more… Our family would get alot of use from the 5 food options there.

He can’t see it though. So I need to play the game. He’d book if I really wanted to try it, or if the kids asked to stay there. But it will also be doing him the favor lol 🤣 I bet it’ll end up one of his top preferred resorts.
I bet it might! I will update how my stay goes. Im 90% sure he will be team RIV after we stay. Maybe not enough for a direct purchase but enough to want to stay there.

Coffee bar was straight up disappointing. It’s cute. And they have these great looking pastries. But if you’re going to pretend to be European, your coffee needs to reflect that and BE European quality, in nice cups. It isn’t. It’s American trash coffee served in disposable cups still. It has so much squandered potential IMO. I honestly resented how my cappuccino was just…subpar.

At least elsewhere I know to expect the coffee will be nothing special. It SHOULD be more special at Riviera, given the theme.
I like the coffee at RIV. Definitely better than Joffrey's.

I actually have never had European coffee and have no idea what is special about it. And I suspect that the majority of RIV owners/guests don't either.

What are the 5 dining options?

Are you counting Le Petit Cafe and the Gelato Cart by the bay, or is there a restaurant I'm missing?

I'm not by any means a coffee snob
Oh, I am. Very much. I grind fresh each morning for a pour-over in my Poor Man's Chemex. (I hate folding the Chemex filters, so I got a Bodum instead that more or less takes a No. 2 cone). I get my beans from a shop that roasts in town; my grinder is just about out, so I bought another 12oz bag on Monday---it was roasted on the 22nd of January, just four days earlier. This is the kind of place that not only sells single-origin beans, but they can tell you the name of the family that owns the farm. I'm currently drinking a Guatemalan that is really good.

Joffrey's is generally meh, though I will admit the straight double espresso isn't half bad---that's my go-to order at the WDW carts.

I haven't tried the coffee at Le Petit yet. I assume I will be disappointed, but you never know. It is almost certainly going to be a step up from the Very Large Bucket Of What They Call Coffee at the typical WDW resort beverage station. It's not that I don't drink it, I do, but I can't say I am ever happy about it.

Well, maybe on those very early mornings when I am dragging to make a 7:30 early entry at AK or MK? Maybe.

Yep! The Gelato Cart is something they’d all really like. And having the cafe is big for us too. The combo of all 5 options would be put to good use and I could see RIV standing out in that way for them.

Your opinion of Le Petit Cafe is vital to this discussion! Please try it ASAP! :)

Quick special mention to the dining options at Caribbean Beach too. We only tried the quick service on our last trip, but it was good - plenty of options and lots of seating. Have heard good things about Sebastian’s (which apparently takes reservations now - I don’t think it used too). And, it really is like a 5 minute walk there from the RIV feature pool.

A very pleasant walk at that

ETA: And for those that didn't know Riviera has a beach, you'll pass it on the way!

Joffreys is an amazing coffee roaster. The problem at Disney is the Resort Blend. It’s the most mediocre of them all and the quick service locations do a poor job of brewing it. Urns are not very clean and they don’t use enough coffee in the filter. Joffreys suffers the hit to their reputation as a result.

Any of the French press pot brews showcase the rest of their blends beautifully.

I also remember standing behind a guy in another Pretty Good Coffee Place, when he ordered a Canadiano.

Barista: "What's a Canadiano?"
Customer: "It's an Americano, but with about half as much water as you'd normally use. So firmly grounded in North America but with a European sensibility. You know, like Canada."

That guy seemed like a good time.

Agreed. We really enjoyed one night on our last stay just walking around the lake (I think its official name is Barefoot Bay), stopping at the playground on the island for our kids to play and then on over to the CB quick serve for a bite. Felt like just a relaxing way to wind down. So close to the parks, but also feeling like you’re away from all the people.

One of my 6 different methods of coffee contraptions I use/own.
