River Country

Sorry,it's been closed for years now. It was Disney's first water park, and we loved it. Many good memories there. There has been talk over the years of re-opening it,but I think it's just rumor. Hope this helped ;)

Wow, I didn't realize it was closed. We were actually thinking about going to River Country on our next trip. That's too bad.....

Darn - was hoping to go it sounded cute

I just seen in one book from late 2003 - that is hoped to reopen in late 2004 - but now I dont see any mention of it in my 2004 and 2005 books

You might want to do a search here on the DIS about River Country. Every so often it comes up and lots of folks have some great information and stories about this former water park.

No chance of a re-opening. The official word came out 1/20/05 that RC is permanently closed. The signs are down too - are they bulldozing it yet?

I wish I could have seen it.

Didn't they have problems keeping River Country clean? Managing an actual estuary off of a real lake is a lot harder that dealing with BB or TL, which, except for the Shark Reef, is all chlorinated.

From what I have heard this is correct - and we should also mention that alligators have been found in the waters of WDW and this is another reason for the closing of River Country. I learned this fact about 3 years ago when we stayed at The Poly and I was surprised you couldn't swim in the water there anymore (I have great memories of swimming in The Seven Seas Lagoon as a child). River Country was a good fun place, but with the bacteria and alligators I think it was a great decision for WDW to close this water park.

I just got my luggage tags today and in the paperwork it said "be sure to visit TL or BB" but RC is currently closed. Why do they even mention RC if it's been closed for so long????? :confused3

same here i wonder what it looked like and what actually happened to it! :confused3

I seem to recall after WDW closed on 9-11 that basically RC never re-opened... or only re-opened for a short time... am I right or am I losing it?

i think you're losing it...
from what i remember, it was closed long before 9/11....(but maybe i'm losing it too)...

and as everyone said, it will never be reopened....but you can still see it when you ride the boat launch from fort wilderness to the magic kingdom...

we loved that place...

I think they mention it for the people who have never been there before or it has been a long time since they were there. Maybe that why they ask those questions when you call so they can point out attractions like this that have closed since you went before. Just a thought.

I heard that they still use if for large functions and are thinking of opening it for Fort Wilderness guests only.

Just 61 more days--but who's counting?? me

don't feel bad. Blizzard Beach (in my opinion) was/is waayyy better than River Country was. I thought the scenery was good but some of the attractions aren't so pleasing.
