Did any one ever go here?

We never went, never had the time. But watching sad videos of the state it has just been left in on you tube this evening has made me feel a bit sad that Disney would just leave it to come to this? I dont expect them to pay money to keep it cleaning and working if it will never be used but why not just demolish!

Here is the video

Just surprised with it being so close to the resorts it has been left!

yes it is a sad state...maybe they thought they would re-open it at some point:confused3 It would be so much better it they got rid of it totally and maybe returned it back to nature..
We never went either just passed it on the way to the wild life Island they had before they opened Animal Kingdom...forget its name at the moment.

we went and loved it,think the problem with it was to do with the water,as it was part off the seven seas lagoon they found it hard to keep it clean,Was at the hop de do the other year and looked like they were building rides at it,but was wrong

We didn't go either, went to Discovery Island though.
I quite like it being left they way it is, leaves history, intrigue & mystery.

we LOVED river country - we went all the time!!
when it was the only park and also after the other waterparks were built...

we went right before it closed for the last time..

it was a great park!! lots of fun!!!

I went a few times when i was little we have home movies of 3 or 4 holidays there and a few pics of the place,
Fromn what i remember and what i have on film the place was great Cool slides that came out of rocks and looked like mud slides and a beach :)

I do wish they had kept the place such a shame.

Our Wishes cruise boat went close by it last year.Looks so sad and forgotten. The driver told us that there are no plans to do anything new with the land at the moment.

I've been and it was good fun. Very relaxing as it wasn't very busy. I do seem to remember that the water was really cold!

I thought that toxic algae was stated as part of the reason for closure.

But maybe they just closed it because of Blizzard Beach opening just a few years before and with Animal Kingdom bringing an end to the original Discovery Island there wasn't the same draw to that part of the world. Who knows??

On our first trip in 1998 we went to Discovery Island - my absolutely favourite thing about that trip (despite the thunder storm on our way back in the last boat of the day :scared1:)

We used the loos at River Island when visiting the Back Yard Barbecue on the same trip and vowed we'd be back to visit River Country on our next trip. But before we visited again it was closed.

Here are a few pics from our 1993 visit.

Just think it looks terribly sad! A little haunted like you could hear the echos of the laughter from many years ago! I have imagined what a forgotten Disney would look like and seen a video of the forgotten Wonderland in Beijing and that has a very creepy haunted feel to it!

Video of abandoned fake Disney

we went on our first visit and loved it. Such a shame it closed down

We went a couple of times when I was little back in 1992. I remember it not being nearly as busy as Typhoon lagoon.

There was video some people did of discovery Island they went on at night VERY creepy. All the old bird cages are still there etc and it looks like a scene out of one of those end of the world movies.

Seems a shame that they have not done something with these places or at least tried to make them look a bit better.

I went back in 1991 on my first Disney trip and thought it was a great water park. The problem river country had was it wasn't as big as typhoon lagoon or blizard beach so less opertunity to upgrade and expand. I also imagine Disney found they only needed two water parks not three.

That video is sad though, you would have thought Disney would have dismantled river country and found a new use for the land by now.

We only visited River Country once - little did we know at that time, it would close for good later that week.

Remember the view of the castle from the beach area, Goofy sliding down the water slide in the pool and getting pretty burnt that day.
