Hi everyone -

When I was a little girl we always stayed at FW, and my sisters and I always went to River country!!

I can't tell you how much fun we had ........... now married and with 4 children I am hoping that ONE DAY it will re-open again.

Our DVC is at WL, and I have asked just about every cast member the same question about River Country.............only to be told that it is no longer safe due to the oils from the boats!!

Well, the boats were there before :confused3

Has anyone heard anything about River Country??? good or bad???

The issue is not one with oil, but rather murky water.

The water was pumped in from Bay Lake, and treated to make it safe to swim in. But even though it was safe to swim in, it was still murky lake water. When a guest went under, it was nearly impossible for the life guards to do their job.

With the addition of two state of the art water parks, the decision was made to close River Country.

River Country is in such bad condition right now that even if they wanted to put something in totally new to replace it, it would probably just be cheaper to start fresh somewhere else on property. Don't expect it to come back in any form...ever.

I was under the impression the problem with water from Bay lake was a bit different, and more based upon concerns with bacteria and other such micro organisms. Wasn't the brown color actually added in order to contribute to the RC theme of an old fashioned watering hole?

With the addition of two state of the art water parks, the decision was made to close River Country.

I think that's really the big thing. In spite of all the other alleged issues, which are mostly accurate, RC was very high maintenance, hard to get to, and smaller than the other two parks. Combined with the other potential problems, I can see how it would only be good business sense to close it.

The water was treated, cant remember which chemicals they used off the top of my head, but it was safe to swim in. It was not chlorine, I know that much. But whatever they used to treat it, it did not make the water clear.

I remember one of the last years that RC was open, and Typhoon and BB would both be filled to capacity. They would direct guests to RC, and after the long drive, the long bus ride, and the long walk, only to find an "Old Fashioned Swimming Hole" you sure had some rather miffed guests! :rotfl:

I loved River Country and dearly miss it

In all of our 20 years visiting WDW, we never had the opportunity to visit River Couintry. A shame, for us, really.:sad1:

:(

That was fun.

If I was an Imagineer, I would *gasp* not open RC again. It would not be finacially smart. Plus, if you look at some of the pictures in the link, it would be kinda hard to look at.

I don't think they should allow people to see it rot. But leave it to rot, or use it as a lifeguard training. W

Wonderful park though.
