River Country

It closed some time ago. The two water parks now are Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. I remember going to River Country as a kid and I loved it! I was disappointed that my own never got to experience it.

What happened to it? Did they turn it in to Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach?

TL and BB are in different locations. They didn't convert River Country into a new waterpark. It's still there but isn't in operation.

It was closed several years back. The closure had something to do with the fact that River Country used water from the lake instead of chlorinated water. There were some environmental/bacterial questions. :confused3

It closed in September 2001 if I recall correctly. We traveled to WDW on September 11, 2001 (yes, we were on a plane that day, sadly) and were so exciting to see River Country, but then realized it was closed and never to reopen again. Grrr. Loved it as a kid.

On another thread i was reading someone suggested that they should turn the pool with three slides into a themed pool for FW. I think that would be awesome

That would be great! We stayed in the cabins at FW back in 1998 on our first family trip. Our children were very young so the pools were fine for them but my older nieces and nephews would have loved a little more theming to the pool area.

I don't recall River Country being open even back then so I think it may have closed before 2001 but I'm not positive. We love TL and BB but I do miss the feel of River Country.....very relaxing even if it was a water park!
