We were visiting at Fort Wilderness tonight, when a "pretend" plane crash happened on the beach. Fireworks helped make the crash look real, and a boat (the one used to ferry from TTC to MK) brought about 200 people from a private ESPN party to the "jungle" for a special party. They went over to River Country. What's up with that, do you think?

Was it a gimmick (sp?) based on the ABC show "Lost"? That would be an interesting party, especially if they brought in 'the creature/monster' from that show.

So it would seem that Disney is using RC for private functions as posted earlier this week. Thanks for the information.

River Country would open up for the rest of us. It was so much fun - we liked it much better than the other two parks. It had the down home charm. Plus, it's the first water park. A couple of years ago, my DH and I were staying at Wilderness Lodge and we decided to take a walk on the trail from the Lodge to FW. We went off the beaten path, and ended up behind River Country. So, we climbed up on a hill and took a peek and we were positioned right at the top of the inner tube ride (remember that?)...right where you use to get on and start down. It was so sad. Dried up with leaves and twigs everywhere. We were so sad. Took some pics - can't even stand to look at them.

Anyone else wish they would bring it back? I had so much fun there, both as a teenager with my family AND with my husband on our honeymoon trip.

I'm with you, Pam. I wish they would bring it back. My DS learned to swim at RC.......

I have so many great memories of RC. Must have been late 70s early 80s?? Oh memories. i took my first trip as an adult to WDW in September 2001 right after it was closed down. I was so upset! Missed it by "that much."

I am all for theme parties, but frankly I think a "plane crash" is just in bad taste! Especially for ESPN as Dick Ebersol JUSt lost part of his family in one. Sheesh...what's next?? A Tsunami party for Red Cross workers??

First of all, LOST is the best show on tv! ::yes:: It would make sense if it was a party for LOST, it is an ABC show. It must have been great to see. Did you take any pictures? I would love to see them if you did. :earboy2:

It does sound like a Lost themed party, but why for ESPN? It would be more logical for ABC. ESPN should have a party at Wide World of Sports.

Who knows, then again, maybe everyone will forget about those disasters as quickly as everyone forgot about 9-11.
