Does anyone have a pulse on current fixed week inventory at Riviera Resort? Was interested in a 2BR standard (probably winter months), but I don't want to get my hopes up too high if availability isn't there.

Also, follow-up: my Dad and I want to purchase together- but he wants to wait 1.5 years....is there a decent risk of fixed week being sold out by then? Trying to get him to take the plunge sooner than later.

DVD can sell up to 35% of any given room for a FW...they don't have to go that high, and can stop sales whenever they want. Waiting 1.5 years to buy RIV is risky because you just never know when DVD will declare it "sold out" and could come out with a dynamic incentive to speed sales up.

If you want that fixed week, buying sooner rather than later would be important. You can certainly reach out to a DVC guide to ask them about where things are for your specific week (or weeks) you could be interested in because it really is dependent on that!

FW question, is there a minimum of points or is it based on what a week costs or does any of that matter? (Is it in fact a weeks worth of points?)

If memory serves, the POS allows them to sell 1/3 of each week/room type as fixed weeks. And I don’t think they’ve sold out any of those at Riviera.

To echo @Sandisw , I think the risk of Riviera selling out by then is bigger than the risk of a FW selling out in Jan/Feb.

If you’re talking December, maybe a sell out of a week is possible.

They can sell up to 35% of a rooms for any given use day.

But, they don’t have to sell that many. If they did sell any one week that high, then it would mean that 65% of rooms would be there for those who don’t have that fixed week.

It's based on what a week costs plus the FW premium, which for the majority of weeks is 10%. So a week in January that normally costs 116 points would be purchased as a 128 point FW contract. If you use the FW booking it uses all the points in that contract. If you opt to cancel, you get 128 points to use as normal.

As of last month there were no FW at Riviera sold out (other than the tower studios which they only offeredfor a brief time).

I would imagine a 2BR FW will be one of the last to hit 35% due to the points needed. As long as they are still actively selling the resort I'd expect that room would remain available for a FW.

Gotcha.
So do you choose the view too? And you can pick a standard view or you can pick a theme park view? (or a cabin, etc)

Yes, there are set point charts for each view. The "All About Fixed Weeks" thread has the current Riviera version listed (from September 2023).

Some of the FWs are actually better values than the point charts now (i.e. week 7 costs 153 points to buy, but it would take you 155 points if you wanted to book it the normal way).
