I am from Sulphur, LA. Rita's eye went through our little town. We are hoping to get back home on Monday. We're supposed to leave for Orlando early Friday morning.

My husband works in communications and I work in one of the industrial facilities. I'm not sure if they will still let us go on vacation.

I have trip insurance from Disney. Do you think this will be covered if we can't make the trip? What exactly will be covered? We are supposed to stay at AKL, have Cirque & MNSSHP tickets.

Thanks!

I can't help you with your question but I would think Disney will help you in any way they can. :grouphug: I hope when you get home you don't find alot of damage.
DS and DDIL live one block off the water in Holly Beach and both teach school at Johnson's Bayou so they are probably without a home and jobs.

Stacy_Leah: I'd call Disney as soon as possible. Maybe you can change your trip. I hope things are too bad at home for you.

We have lucked out so far and are just getting dumped on with rain. I wish SO LA could have been as lucky as NW LA.

I had to cancel a trip in May due to my DH's emergency surgery. My son and his fiance went without me. I called Disney and changed the reservation from 3 persons to 2. Disney directly credited my Disney Visa with about half the cost of my portion (one third of the trip), and the Disney Trip Insurance covered the rest of my portion in full, tho it took about six weeks. The Cirque tickets were non-cancellable, and I expected to lose the value of my ticket, but when my son explained the situation at check-in they gave him a gift certificate for another cirque ticket, good up to one year from date of issue. Since the group I'm going with next week isn't intereted in Cirque, I sold the gift certificate on e-bay for $66, nearly what I'd paid. Perhaps they can do something like that for you.
My heart aches for you. A day ago, we thought Rita would hit here, destroying my plans and possibly my home as well. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide to do. I do hope your home isn't seriously damaged.

Called today. They've waived the cancellation fees for people from the affected area. We still haven't decided, though. As long as work allows us both to keep our vacation, we will probably go. Especially since they are expecting power to be out for another 1-2 weeks.

Wish us luck - we're heading home tonight. We'll probably spend a couple of days there before we drive to Orlando. Depending on when we leave, we might be able to spend an extra couple of days. The best thing - I found a shelter that will take my 2 great danes in Orlando. We don't have shot records, so they'll just re-vaccinate.
