What a class act he was. I was fortunate to unexpectedly see Tony Randall play the role of Henry Drummond in the Broadway production of Inherit the Wind about 6 or 7 years ago. George C. Scott was to play the role but was in the midst of his ultimately fatal illness and was at the last minute not able to perform that night. Randall, who was the founder and director of the theater in which the play was performed, came out and announced that George would not be able to perform that night but would be replaced by "that talented young character actor [there is a long story as to why he said this, but I won't bore you] Tony Randall" As the play began, he ran back stage, got into makeup and costume and entered just a few minutes later in character. What an awesome play, an awesome actor, and an awesome experience. American theater will miss him deeply.
