RIP Thread

So I guess I'm not eligible to be buried in Arlington, but a non veteran drunken rich guy who killed his secretary is. Hmmmmm....maybe if I change my name to Kennedy........

You know I was thinking today when the funeral was on how when he was alive he was a drunkard and a womanizer. Now he's a hero. I wonder how it felt if you really knew him what it was like saying all that hogwash.

Yeah, I was curious about that too - but he did meet the requirements

Any former member of the Armed Forces who served on active duty (other than for training) and who held any of the following positions:
An elective office of the U.S. Government

He served a couple of years after being expelled from Harvard (1951-1953) and strings were pulled to make sure he served in Europe not Korea and his father also was able to get his enlistment cut short. He was a private.

You will be eligible too when you reach 60. I already am and qualify for a couple of reasons, but have no desire to be buried there - at least not right now.

I understand that they will be building a small replica of a bridge and a distillery near his grave site so he'll feel at home.

And, yeah Frank he was a good swimmer - but only when swimming away from sunken cars.

I often wonder at funerals if the person being spoken of is really the one in the casket. Seems that people forget a lot of things during a eulogy. Me, I hope a few people step up and tell it like it really was, I could be a huge PITA but I was always there when they needed me, I stood by my principles even when it cost me, stuff like that is what really tells the story. Dont embellish things, tell the truth, I have always believed we honor people by telling their story, warts and all.

Don't we need to tell them about the cases of beer you indulged in and all the food you cooked?

I thought this was a RIP thread as in Rest In Peace?:confused3

The man did die in a horrible way. Cancer is a terrible disease and to have brain cancer which takes away your mind, your memories, etc. has to be an awful way to die. :sad1:

I am a cancer survivor and never ever wish that horrid disease on anyone.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I don't recall wishing any harm on Ted Kennedy from anyone. He was his own worst enemy and did quite a good job of making his own memories of his life. I'm sure in some ways and in his family's eyes he was a good man. In the worlds eyes, you have to call a spade a spade.

Probably the most touching and heartfelt moment of the entire day (for me at least) was at the very end..at the burial site. When the cameras cut away because it was too dark, but you could hear one of his grandaughters speaking. With a quivering voice she recalled her "grandpa". How she will cherish her memories of spending the early morning hours on the porch with him looking out to sea and watching the dawn of a new day. So simple..and so heartfelt. Didn't matter to her what he did or didn't do..or what people thought of him. She loved him and was gonna miss him. Maybe his best accomplishment was that through it all...it appears he had a family that loved him.
We should all be so lucky.

I am not condoning anything he did in his life. All I am saying is that I thought this was a REST IN PEACE thread. Not talk about all of his faults and misdeeds. He saw two brothers felled by assassins' bullets. Two of his three children had cancer as did he. I think it is time we let him REST IN PEACE.

No I am not a bleeding heart liberal or even a Catholic. Just trying to show some respect for the dead.

That family knew tragedy. Very sad how such bad luck came to them. I will never forget the JFK Jr wreck. It's like they had a cloud over them. It's obvious Teddy was good to his grandkids.

Well there in lie's the problem. (so to speak:laughing:) This is no ordinary RIP thread..it's the Camping Community Board RIP thread. No one get's to rest in peace here before everyone gets their say. Good, bad or indifferent. It's umm...shall we say.."unique"..Yeah..I'll have to go with that. :lmao:
Don't take offense because none is really intended. It's just the way we regulars are. Or should that be "irregulars":confused3 I'm not sure..but then again that's another thread all together.:rolleyes1

Speaking of showing respect for the dead, (this is nothing to do with Kennedy),
have you ever noticed how when a ambulance is coming down the road, most people WILL NOT get out of the way and some dorks even try to outrun it so they don't have to deal with the ambulance. BUT, when that person is DEAD because the ambulance couldn't get to the person in need because people WOULDN'T GET OUT OF THE WAY, they WILL stop in the middle of the road backing up the traffic so they can pay their respect when that same mans funeral comes by !!
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE !!!

Nobody gets out of the way for ambulances or funerals anymore, trust me, I have experience with both.

I get out of the way for ambulances and funerals, and open doors for people as well. It's a short ride, might as well be nice while we're in it together.

Here's to the slow but steady wheels of justice, bringing Jason Rivers to trial ten years after shooting officer Lawrence Jupin who later died of complications. Would have been sad enough if he died immediately, but it was years later after a blood clot permanently disabled this proud young man who stopped to help. Long story, but close friend of a friend - they had gone whitewater rafting together earlier that week.

RIP officer Jupin.

WORCESTER, Mass. -- A Fitchburg man accused of shooting a Westminster police officer during a foot chase through the woods 10 years ago is finally standing trial.

The jury-waived murder trial of Jason Rivers is scheduled to start Tuesday in Worcester Superior Court.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that Rivers' lawyers are expected to raise an insanity defense.

Rivers is charged with second-degree murder for allegedly shooting Officer Lawrence Jupin three times in May 1999.

The 34-year-old officer suffered irreversible brain damage after being shot, and died in November 2002.

Rivers has been held without bail at a state mental health facility since his arrest. He was deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial during much of that time, but has since been found competent.

Sorry for the tragic loss to your community, Dan.

I think you HAVE to be afflicted mentally in order to take the life of another human being....but does that mean then, that no one is capable of standing trial and being held accountable for their actions? By no means!!! To me, if they are that evil in the first place, have more than one witness to the crime, or have irrefutable evidence, do society a favor & do them in....quickly!!!
