DH managed to kill myslow cooker - he turned on the hob by accident and didn't notice til there was a terrible smell - caused by the cable burning through and one of the feet burning off:scared1: (Lucky it was empty and waiting to be put away;))

I've heard newer slow cookers can be a bit on the hot side - has anyone bought one recently and would you recommend it? I don't want a massive one because of storage - about 5l is fine, but I'd get a bigger one if it was not too heavy (I don't have room to leave it out all the time - especially if people are going to burn it!!:rolleyes1)

TIA

If you go on Amazon you can read various reviews and also Argos and Tescos do similar.

I nearly bought one the other day but then read loads of people saying it was too hot and burnt the food. Also lots of comments regarding the large ones saying they had to be full to cook properly so you have to be prepared for batch cooking - that's not really my thing :confused3

i got mine from asda, its not huge but it feeds the 4 of us easily enough, was only 7 pounds as well !

The one I had was 4.5l and it often was full with my greedy lot, but even half-full (like for fajita filling) it worked great. I've read the reviews which is why I thought I'd check if anyone had tried one - three of the which best buys had good reviews but also people saying they were too hot, which the which report didn't find so I wondered if some batches were hotter than others.
