A cab could be cheaper with a few people. Quick ride, possible stop at a store etc. Not a great option for me it’s usually just 2 of us. I’ve Ubered on other trips but one time a driver didn’t show at all. And there’s no set pricing so more difficult to budget. But I have even used them overseas which worked really well.

Mears do taxis mind and I've always found them reliable. Your story is why I don't use Uber as always paranoid it just wont show.

I understand cost but the way i see it.. if im spending 8000 or so on a holiday. Might as well spend 100 dollars more on a private transfer than take a longer coach.. with loads of drop of points.
