I doubt he'll be missed much beyond NYC and other places he gave $$ to to get his name on whatever building/park/street sign he could.

He wasn't a man that did things out of the goodness of his heart ~ he did it to be recognized.

I never had anything nice to say about him when he was alive ~ why would that suddenly change when he died?

ETA: He may be worshipped in the NYC area, but he certainly isn't anywhere else.

The man is dead. What we say now doesn't matter. I don't put any stock in the adage "you must speak respectfully of the dead".

I reserve my respect for those that deserve it.

And I HATE the Yankees and really anything to do with them or anything Yankee, but ole Steinie did so much (esp in our community in FL), and wanted it kept secret, I kind of hate that people are coming forward about it now just because he is dead.

LOL! Steinbrenner is actually well known across America for a lot of charity work he did where he wanted NO recognition. I will just sit back and smile as those stories come out realizing what a foolish statement you just made. Sometimes, that is even better than an "I told you so".
