Before Tony Romo, before Troy Aikman, even before Roger Staubach, he was the original Dallas Cowboys quarterback.

He died at age 72 from a brain hemorrhage.

The Monday Night Football broadcasts, with Howard Cosell and Frank Gifford were legendary, as were those yellow sport jackets:

And I still remember his Lipton Iced Tea commercials.

I moved to Dallas in 1967, and I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Don Meredith. On the field and off he was just great.

This made me SO sad today.

You left off Craig Morton and Danny White ;) And before Dandy Don, there was Eddie LeBaron.

I've been a Dallas fan since 1964, hard for a New Yorker living in Giants country. Meredith was my first sports hero. So sad. He was young at 72. I wasn't able to find anything about the COD. I wonder if this was sudden.

He was my favorite of the three (well, who really liked Cosell!?). I was sorry to hear this. I wonder what he had been doing the past few years, as I hadn't seen him in years.
