I guess the death of Natasha Richardson wasn't enough to make people realize that, if you take a hit on the noggin', you should get it checked out ASAP.

Billy Mays was a pitchman for various commercial products like OxiClean and OrangeGlo. He died yesterday after hitting his head during a plane landing on Saturday night.

Too bad-he was loud, brash, but very entertaining to watch on TV.
May he rest in peace.

Well if anyone can sell themselves into getting into the Pearly Gates, He can. God Bless, His Family.

I'm sorta ashamed that I know this, but being a fan of infomercials, I do.

Billy Mays did Oxy Clean and that crap, but not ShamWOW. ShamWOW was done by Vince, who was arrested for...I don't remember what, exactly, but it was sordid and icky.

I helped to make Billy rich by buying the Oxy Clean...and got the Orange Glo and extra crap with it. None of it was any better than my regular brands...it was actually worse. But I bought it because Billy sold it so well.

He was an entertaining informercial host. :)

The FAA's trying to blame himself for the head injury by saying that he wasn't wearing a seat belt. I'm not sure how a seat belt would have protected his head. Now, if he whacked it on the seat in front of him, they'd have a valid argument.

Sorry about the ShamWOW error; I thought it was that other guy. My mistake.

TAMPA — Preliminary autopsy results for TV pitchman Billy Mays will be released this afternoon.

Tampa police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said the autopsy will be performed this morning. Mays, famous for selling cleaning products on infomercials, didn't wake up Sunday morning and was pronounced dead about 7:45 a.m. No foul play is suspected, police said.

Mays, 50, told his family he didn't feel good Saturday and went to sleep early, about 10 p.m., police said. He had just returned from a trip to Philadelphia to shoot an Oxyclean commercial and was on the plane that had a hard landing at Tampa International Airport when a tire blew out.

Mays told WTVT-Ch.13 Saturday that something hit his head during the landing, but no injuries were reported to airport officials.

This is very sad.

Billy pitched "Zorbeez" shammys. Vince pitched Shamwow and was busted for beating the bejeezus out of a hooker when she bit his lip and wouldn't let go. Guess he never saw "Pretty Woman" and heard the "no kissing" rule.

Everyone on the flight was checked out before being released to go home though...

And as far as I know, the FAA isn't investigating his death. Perhaps once the autopsy is complete that might change.

I believe in addition to his older son (little billy on some episodes) Billy has a young daughter. So sad.

Unfortunately, most people will not seek medical attention for a hit on the head unless it is severe enough that they lose consciousness. He probably developed a headache, but thought he could just sleep it off. Very sad situation.

And from watching him in his series with Sully Billy always played the tough guy. Never knowing when to say "enough" or "help".

OK, so until we hear otherwise there's a chance it may have had nothing to do with the aircraft landing - but - I'm not buying the "he wasn't wearing his seatbelt" thing... that's whey they have the flight attendants walk the isles making sure everyone's upright, tables up and buckled in. I'm sure the flight attendants don't keep a notebook on who was & who wasn't wearing their seat belts. I get so mad when corporations scream "not it!" like a bunch of kids playing tag. They need to chill.

The results of the autopsy are in. There were no signs of a head injury. It appears that he died of sudden cardiac arrest. He did have signs of heart disease. It does not appear to have been a heart attack. His heart just stopped.
