Has anyone ever done this? It is suppose to add hightlights, restore acid mantel and remove soap film.

Yes, very true. Vinegar is amazing for so much more.
but yes, I have heard of this. Never personnally tried it myself though.
Let us know about the results!

rinsing your hair with vinegar will close down the cuticle of your hair (the outer layer) which in turn will make your hair look shinier which will bring out your natual highlights but will not add any new ones. Your hair will look pretty though! :)

My mother told us they used vinegar & water as a hair conditioner during the Depression, so one time when we had run out of "real" conditioner we tried it. I had long (between shoulders & waist) straightened hair at the time. It worked GREAT for getting rid of tangles. In addition, my hair looked really auburn...so I did this for years! (My hair had been auburn when I was in grade school, but had darkened to "plain old brown" - I didn't realize there was any red left to highlight.)

Is it okay for color treated hair?

What ratio of vinegar to water do you use?

My mom always rinsed my hair with vinegar and water to get the chlorine out. When I was younger, I had light blonde hair that would turn green after a long day in the pool. It really worked too.

I used to do it all the time. Hubby LOVED the fact that I smelled like a pickle. :p

Does anyone know what ratio of vinegar to water to use?

Jodi, my mom never measured.........she'd just squirt "some" vinegar in the second-to-the-last rinse and pour it on my noggin.

I would say that it was at least 2-3 tablespoons in a gallon of warm water...?

Seriously though, don't forget to rinse well AFTER the vinegar, or you're gonna have folks start asking if yer sweet or dill. :p

2 recipes:

#1

1 ts Cider vinegar
1 qt Water

Mix together. After shampooing, use as a final
rinse to make your hair shine.

#2

After shampooing, rinse hair with a mixture of 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar to 2 cups cool or lukewarm water. You can follow with a small amount of conditioner (the kind you leave in) or use as a final rinse after rinsing out your conditioner.

This sounds really cool. I'm glad that I read the whole post though because I was thinking "That sounds neat, I'm going to try it" and until the last couple posts I just assumed you rinsed your hair in 100% vinager, lol. I'd have smelled like a pickle for sure! lol.

Keli, I thought it was probably 50% vinegar and 50% water. What a pair we would have been :)
