Ringworm on dog?

My SIL, who has lots of cats, kept our dog while we were on vacation last week. Today I noticed a spot on the side of Bailey's head that I am pretty sure is ringworm. Does anyone know how to treat it on pets? Would a human anti-fungal cream work, is there something I can get at Petsmart, or does it require a vet visit?

I'm not sure about a dog but unless something has changed in the last couple of years for cats, a topical cream doesn't work. I had to get medicine from a pharmacist and it wasn't cheap!

You might want to pay a visit to the vet just to make sure that it is ringworm and nothing else.

Good luck!

Well, you might WANT to take them to the vet. Remember...you can get ringworm from your pet. Many years ago, I purcased the CUTEST little Himalayan kitten from a pet store for $1000....I couldn't help it...she was SOO tiny.

Well, she had ringworm. She gave it to me and my dog (who had an allergy to the fungus. Her skin actually came off in chunks where the fungus had embedded itself. It was HORRIBLE to look at.)

Anyway, they shaved my poor little kitten, and my dog so we could see all the spots. Then, they gave me a cream to put on all their "spots". I am assuming it was doggie Lotrimin.

The people cream might be a little harsh for your pet, but the fungus is certainly the same, so if you cannot get to a vet this weekend, you might want to give it a try.

Good luck!!

Oh, your poor babies!

I know it is very contagious - I got it a few times years ago from my roommates cat. I am afraid we have already been exposed - she sleeps right between DH and me, under the covers and snuggled up against one of us. She has been home since Monday and I just noticed this a little while ago.
Guess I need to have some Lotrimin handy!

I will give the vet a call tomorrow!
