Hi Ladies,

I was talking to a friend earlier who is looking to purchase an engagement ring for his girlfriend, but he can't decide on what width he wants the band to be, and asked for my advice. So naturally, I coming to ask YOUR advice! :lmao:

So, girls, if you wouldn't mind sharing, what is the width (2 mm, 2.5 mm, 3 mm, etc) of your engagement ring, also (for comparison purposes) what size ring do you wear?

Are you getting/have the same width wedding ring as your engagment?

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

My wedding band is a platinum pave diamond band and it's 3.75 mm wide. I have no idea how wide my engagement ring is, but it looks like it's just about as wide as my wedding band. My e-ring is a solitare .70 carat round diamond in platinum.

Thanks! I LOVE your rings. By the way, is your wedding band from blue nile, because if it is, I was thinking that exact same one. Do you like it?? Congratulations and good luck on your upcoming wedding! :bride: :yay:

Thanks again :goodvibes

You can buy matching engagement ring and wedding bands, so keep that in mind if she's the type that likes to match.

The type of band is very dependent on the person's finger and size of diamond. Slimmer bands can make the diamond look larger. If the band has inset diamonds, then of course it also affects the way the main diamond looks.

One important thing to remember is the band is the cheapest part of the ring. If she doesn't like the band, it only costs a couple hundred dollars to change a gold band (but more for platinum).

Also remember that many larger jewelry stores will exchange the setting (band) at no charge if she'd rather have something different. I have worked in 2 different national chain jewelry stores in the last 4 years and both would do this without question during the exchange period stated on the receipt.

My band is 3mm wide, but my diamond is an emerald cut and is 7mm, so the band still looks delicate in compairson. Let your friend know that there's no right way to do this - the band can be as wide as the diamond or as thin as 2mm and they all look nice - it's just preference. The most popular at the stores I worked at were 2.5 mm Tiffany settings like DIsNeYSweEtHrTs

Hope that helps

Another thing to keep in mind is the size of her fingers. If she has short fingers or long fingers. That might make a setting look different. One way to not go wrong is to go to a jewelry store that will set the diamond in a setting and would change it out once it's presented. For instance, when I have a guy that has no idea what she would like, I suggest he have the diamond he chooses set in a tiffany style solitaire mounting so that he can present her with the ring and she has the option of changing it to a semi-mount (with side stones) or keeping that ring and adding either a band or wrap or both!!! That way he's chosen the diamond and has the ring to present when he proposes, and she still can get what she wants! I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, I do work in a Jewelry store and would be more than happy to answer any and all questions. :thumbsup2 And tell your friend, good luck! I know that this is a hard decision, and not that easy of a process sometimes!

My e-ring is 2.5mm and my wedding band is 3mm. For reference, I have very thin, long fingers - ring size 3.5 - I think average is ring size 6 or 7. I tried on 4mm bands but they didn't look right. My e-ring is a solitaire in platinum and my wedding band is plain platinum so they match perfectly. I think any wedding band will go with a soliaire. If he chooses something with side or accent diamonds he may have to get a set or look more for a wedding ring that will match well.

Yep! My wedding band is from Blue Nile. It has around 50 small round diamonds and they are on the front, top and bottom of the ring. It's so sparkly in the light! I love it, and I think it goes perfectly with my e-ring. It's so fun shopping for rings. My DF bought this titanium one from Blue Nile as well - it's actually better looking in person!

We can't say enough good things about them! Good luck!!

I got my engagement ring online. It was too large at first, but I just sent it back and they resized it with no questions asked. That's the key, to find a place that will work with you and not give you grief for making a mistake in sizing or choice of diamonds. I used Abazias.com and they treated me quite well. Research as much as you can, as there are a number of good places out there who will walk you through all of your shopping and purchasing. :thumbsup2 :wizard:  :woohoo:
