Riding with 3

I am taking my kids this Februray alone, so there will be 3 of us. My kids are 4 and 6 and they love Space Mountain and Matterhorn. These two rides do not accomodate 3 people in one seat, so I wondering if I could wait in line (and use fastpass for Space) and when I get to the front of the line ask if a single rider could ride with my daughter?( I would insist that we rode right behind her) I don't feel comfortable having her ride in front of us by herself and not even sure if they would allow it. I hate to be a pain and make it complicated, but I would be willing to wait longer if we had to. I'm just not sure if this is allowed or if we'll have to skip these rides this time around. Thanks for your help!!!

I am a little confused...you don't want your daughter to sit by herself in front of you and your son?

If this is the case, I am guessing you will have to talk to the attractions CM and see what they suggest. Many times when we have an "odd" number of people, someone ends up sitting alone.

Being a single parent I understand your dilemma.

Also as a parent if I saw you in this situation I would be glad to help you out. I've done this countless times on chairlifts, in particular for ski instructors that have more kids than will fit on the chair.

It may be some work to find another parent going solo near you but I imagine somebody friendly could help you out.

I don't understand how having a stranger riding with her is better than her riding alone? She'll be right in front of you, so you could make sure she's ok either way. I definitely wouldn't want my child riding in some stranger's lap on the matterhorn. You just never know! Space is different since it's side by side.

Also a safety thing, would a stranger try to help your daughter during the ride if need be?

When I did a trip with just me and the girls I put them in front of me. I would much rather have the stranger next to me instead of next to them! I had no problems with single riders being next to me but I was sure I didn't want the girls with a stranger. When we did the trip with just the 3 of us the girls were a little older then yours are but at 4 & 6 I would have put them in front of me.

Well, I guess they could ride together, but I just don't like them riding without an adult next to them in case they needed help. My daughter is very friendly, so Im not worried about her sitting next to a stranger (I honestly didn't really think about Matterhorn's seating- that one may be different!) I have an insane fear of them falling out of the seat, which is why I'm so paranoid about it! I'll talk to the CM and see what they suggest. Thank you for your input.

I agree with pixiewings suggestion, but sometimes, when you see a Mom in line with her kids for a while to gauge her, you might decide to ask, so playing it by ear will probably be the thing to do; I know as a Mom I would protect the child on the ride the same way I would my own, so should the ride break down, etc. I would be willing to assist them and make sure they didn't feel upset or scared, etc. and I think there's a lot of people who feel the same way.

This has been our experience as well. When we went a couple of years ago they would not let my DD7 (at the time) and her cousin who was 6 ride alone in a teacup together. We just rode Alice earlier this week and the CM let DD9 and DD4 ride in the front row together of the car we were in, so not sure if it made it ok because we were in the same car, or if we just got a CM that let us do it.

In 2009 my 2 kids and I made several trips to DLR *just the 3 of us* My kids were 8/9 & 5/6 then. On rides where only 2 seats side by side were available DS rode in front of DD & I - rides where 3 is possible *Thunder, Haunted Mansion* we usually sat together And I bet some rides my kids sat by each other and I sat by myself.

You don't have a friend that might want to come along and help you out That just sounds like a tough situation to always be scanning for someone to ride with your child.

We are a family of 3 so I'm usually the one who rides seperate. I can't tell you how many times we've struck up conversations with families while in line so that by the time the ride came along I felt like I was with a new friend. As a mom I would be happy to help out another family.

We've also gone to WDW with my sister and her 3 kids. DD and my oldest niece (they were 10/11 at the time) andf I were the only thrill seekers so we ran into the same thing. I so get your fear. I'm always afraid DD will fall out on Splash Moutain .

I guess I'm a trusting person but I never would have thought about riding behind someone being bad. Trust you instincts and I bet it will all work out.

I will trust my instinct- I guess that is the way to go! It's really only Matterhorn and Space that I'm concerned about and if we can't do them this time, it will be OK!
