Are there any tips for riding up front or is it just being in the right place at the right time. It always seems that someone is always up front already when I have tried in the past.
Would really like for my daughter to be able to do this on our next trip.
Any suggegtions?

We've always just gone up toward the front and asked a CM. There have been times that we've been told that we'll have to wait for the next one, but that's OK! We don't mind waiting! :cool1:

try your best to be first in line and ask the closest CM and they will direct you to the front of the monorail. :teeth:

Is this an overrated experience or is this a really fun and exciting opportunity?
Depends on the person. For my family, it was a fun addition to our trip, and we really enjoyed it. For others, they aren't particularly thrilled. For some, it's the moment of a lifetime. It just really depends on how you feel about the monorails and Disney.

If you have plenty of time it's not a problem. The best ride (IMO) is the one to Epcot from TCC. Just ask the cast member who is on the platform, don't just go to the front. The cast members are usually pretty fair, and know who has asked and who hasn't. If someone who hasn't asked tries to line jump you they will help out and tell them that you are next. You will often find that people wont wait for the next monorail, so if you are happy to wait until the next one you'll get your turn. I haven't been on really busy days, so I don't know how many people wait for this then. On the resort monorail I've always found someone has beaten me to it. Mid afternoon seems a good time too, if that's any help.

I thought it was awesome, everyone looks at you when you pull up like, "How did they get to ride there?" However, we rode in the afternoon and the front smelled like BO. I mean, I understand that it's a long day, but that was gross. Not to be mean, but maybe they should keep a little air freshener or something. ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

Ask. If you want to ride at the front of the monorail, the easiest way to do that is to simply ask if you can. The answer may be "no" -- due to many different reasons. But if you ask every time, and if you're willing to wait for the next train or to come back at a less busy time, you'll eventually get a ride.

But, once you do ... stop asking! Let someone else have their chance. I can't tell you the number of people I've heard talking about how they got their fifth ride at the front of the monorail this week, or how they've been up front on the monorail three times in one day. Once you've had your chance, stop asking until your next trip and give someone else a chance to ride up front.

You might find that it wasn't BO, but that unique smell that is the monorail (apparently our driver told us it was the glue they used for the carpets, but who knows)

We had good luck getting on the front of the monorail from the Contemporary doing the resort loop. The kids thought it was very cool. It only seats 4 so husband and kids did it while I had some solo time riding the train.

No...I definitely think it was BO. The guy was also sweating profusely, and it was cool in there! Maybe he was sick or something. ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

We happened to be one of the first in line at the TTC going to MK ::MickeyMo There was a friendly CM standing at the front and I just walked over and politely asked if we could ride up front with the driver. he smiled and said,"Sure, that will cost you $50." I just laughed and he directed us to get in as soon as the monorail came to a stop. Two girls standing close by heard and asked if they could ride too and he let them. Your best bet is to just ask a CM close to the front :)

there is a bench that i think is purple sit on that you have a front seat ride secured

Yes, the smell up front is definitely... interesting. Gag.

I think your best bet is try to get the front during non-busy times. We park hopped at around 11:00am and got to sit up no problem. DBF just explained that it was my first time at WDW!

We always ride in the front at least once per trip. The best place is from the TTC to Epcot. The view is incredible when you approach Spaceship Earth. We always have to wait for at least one other family to board, before there is a one with room for us, but it's worth it, my kids love it!

On our last trip, we were approaching the station and a monorail was just finishing up loading. We hustled up the ramp to be able to catch it and they were closing the last doors, so they directed us to the front of the monorail.

My DH was really surprised. He didn't know that you could ride up there. Then the driver pulled out licenses for us all and gave them to us. What was really strange was after we left the Contemporary, the monorail started having some problems. It stopped suddenly midway between the Contemporary and the TTC. We got to the TTC and had to stop just off the platform so that they could check it out. They thought they had it fixed and we started off again and barely got out of TTC when we had to backup for them to check it out. They unloaded everyone and had us wait for the next monorail. It was neat listening to them discuss the problem after seeing the lights go off to alert to the problem.

DH said he would try and ride up there again.

Ever try for the "Back" car? We do this at DL all the time and when the kids were littler (they're teens now) we'd let them "Mono-Surf" while riding. They'd stand up as if on a skateboard and balance themselves as the monorail made it's trek. We all got a big kick out of this, but would not recommend this in the "front" car as the CM pilot might have to warn them ..."to keep their hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times and remain seated, please!"
