We are planning a trip in early 2017 and would like to take the monorail "just to ride it". I have a feeling this may be our last trip to Disney World for a longggg time so am trying to do different things we have never done.

We are most likely staying at Pop. I think most of our days will be at MK and maybe 1 day at HS (no park hoppers).

So what would be the best way to do this? I'm thinking this would be during the day for a nice break and maybe on one of the days we plan to stay for Wishes. So I'm assuming we would get on it at MK. Can we just stay on it until it comes all the way back around to MK? How do we know which line to get on to do this and what are the times it runs (understanding it may change come early 2017). How much time should we plan to do this?

Thanks for any help you can provide!!!

Yes, you can do that! This is what I would do. I would take the monorail to the TTC, from MK. You can take either the express line, which will take you there directly, or take the resort line, which will stop at the CR, and then the TTC. Then, I would transfer over to the Epcot line! It goes through Epcot before stopping. Then it returns to the TTC. You could then hop off, move back to the resort line...that will go to the Polynesian, then GF, then finally to the MK. It's a nice way to spend some down time.

Yes, you can just get on the monorail and ride till it comes back to MK. We have done this many times for a break! It does not matter which one you get on in that case, because of course both of them will come back to MK, but the Resort monorail will take longer to make the circuit. What many people do is make an ADR at one of the monorail resorts, explore that resort, eat, then get back on and ride back to the MK in time for their later plans.

It runs continuously so there are no schedules. If you just went around once it would only take less than 10 min. Suggest you get off at poly and/or grand Floridian and explore a bit. Lots of good restaurants for dinner. You could always take boat back to MK too.

Thank you all!!! Especially for all the details. That's a great idea about taking a boat back to MK. Our daughter would love that also!

All of the above information is correct and has some great hints to enjoy the experience. I personally would recommend boarding the the Resort Rail at MK, then taking it to the third stop the Polymesian Vilage Resort for lunch. The Kona Kafe is excellent. Then you can take it back to the MK from there only two stops away. The monorails do run continuously all day with only the Express rail (TTC to MK only) shutting down midday some days. If you have any questions just ask a Monorail cast member. Each round trip on the Reaort rail takes about 20-25mins depending on the station times, the Express rail about 11mins, and the Epcot rail (from TTC to Epcot) about 20mins
