Riding the monorail question??

Hi all! Although I've been to disney 15+ times, we've never used the disney bus service (always drove our car to the parks). From what I've read, the bus to the MK drops you off right at the MK and therefore, you don't take the monorail. Is this correct? If so, is there a way to take the monorail even if we use the bus to get to the mk? I just love approaching the MK for the first time on the monorail.

Also, is there a way to ride the monorail on our first night without using a day on our tickets? We aren't planning on doing a park the day of arrival but I'm sure my kids would love riding the monorail if it is possible. We are staying at the beach club and then POR, so we won't be on the monorail loop.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

Go to the Transportation Center and you can enter by monorail.

Where are you staying? That might help plot your course.

To answer both questions, you can ride the monorail anytime you choose. You could take a bus to Epcot, then get on the monorail from there to the TTC, then to the MK. On your first night, just return to Epcot on the monorail. We've done this many times.

Correct. And if you want to give your kids an extra treat, just ask the CM on duty at the monorail enterance if you may sit up front in the first car. Very nice experience. Sometimes you may have to wait for the next mono, but it's worth the wait.

Enjoy.

My son's favorite ride at Disney World happens to be the monorail. Go figure. Hundreds of dollars on tickets and he wants to ride something that doesn't cost a dime. So it has become a ritual for us. The day we arrive we head to downtown disney, when we are done doing our shopping we use the buses to go to one of resorts on the monorail loop...poly,cont,GF..and then hop on the monorail and ride it all the way around. The best time is at night when everything is lit up. Then we can get of at the MK and head to bus transportation back to our resort.

The monorail is fun... you could go to the TTC on a bus, and ride the resort loop - and stop off and visit each if you like - the GF, Poly and Contemp or take the EPCOT monorail round trip - it's kind of cool, once it gets to EPCOT it loops through the park and then stops - so you can see the buildings/rides from the monorail! DD and I did that yesterday before we came home - we got on at the TTC and just rode round trip without getting off at EPCOT.

Our family WDW tradition is to resort hop the first day we arrive. Looking around the different resorts, soaking up the atmosphere, shopping, riding the boats over to FW Campground and also taking the monorail around the resort loop. Yep, you can definitely ride the monorail without using a day on your tickets. Be sure to ask the CM's if you can ride up front! It's awesome! They use to hand out certificates to kids as being co-pilot or something. I don't know if they still do this or not. Be sure to check out the electrical water pageant that night as well at the Campground or over along Poly beach and stay to watch Wishes over the MK.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions and info! All the planning for our trip is done, so I'm just working on all the last minute questions and details. 13 more days to go! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We would also like to ride the monorail one evening. Would you suggest riding the MK loop or Epcot loop? Can you get a bus from AK to the TTC?

I would say take the Epcot one. Try and get the front seat too...great views of Future World.

Its a tradition for us.

How long would it take to do the Epcot loop starting at the Transport and ticket center then change and do the Magic Kingdom loop?

There are 3 loops.

Epcot
MK Express
Resort

All three have the TTC in common, so you can transfer from one to the others there.

You can START from any point the monorail has a stop (and end in the same stop later, after you have ridden as much as you like).

Soooo...

Why not take a trip (or two) on ALL THREE loops?

If I was going to skip one, it would be the MK Express. You can see the same views from the Resort loop... and the Resort monorail makes STOPS in all the the locations instead of just cruising on by.

I am thinking of taking the bus from AK (after evening EMH) to MK then doing the MK Express Loop, then getting off at the TTC and doing the Epcot loop. Then get a bus from TTC back to AKL. Would this work?

Actually, the AKL bus stops at the MK, not the TTC. Providing they are still running, you would have to catch an MK monorail or the ferry boat back across the lagoon to the MK bus parking area. The ferry boat dock is closer to the bus stop.

It was 3 yo favorite ride also. We joked that when we go back that we will not buy tickets into the parks, just stay on site and spend the day riding the ferry and monorail. :rotfl:

Thanks for your help. I have changed my mind again. What about if we got the bus from AK (EMH ends at 7:30pm) to Epcot, then got on the monorail to the TTC, then go on the MK Express Monorail and do the loop back to the TTC, then go back to Epcot on the monorail. Then get the bus from Epcot to AKL. Does that sound a better idea or is it just going to take ages to do?

Since my family & I always stay at the Contemporary we love ride the Monorail & we do take it a lot to visit the Polynesian & Grand Floridian. Sometimes we like to ride it all around & not get off.

It's OK, it would take about 2 hours to get back to AKL.Time includes wait time for busses/monorails

What about

Take the bus to Epcot from AK.
Monorail to the TTC
Express/or resort monorail to MK,
Bus to AKL.

This will be about 1,5 hours (including wait time).

Well, no. The monorail ride TO Epcot is the one that goes into FW and then back out. But you see very much of WS.

The monorail does not go into MK at all. The express monorail leg going from the TTC to MK passes near Tomorrowland. You really only see Space Mountain.
