Riding the monorail for fun

I want the kids to ride the monorail but I'm not sure where we'll go. We're driving so we'll have our van.

Here's my latest schedule:

Sun MGM dinner break Epcot (for IllumiNations)
Mon MK lunch break Back for afternoon Parade & evening
Tues AK dinner break MK/Epcot in evening (kids' choice)
Wed. Typhoon lagoon Chef Mickeys for dinner
Thurs. Epcot afternoon break Epcot
Fri DTD afternoon break MNSSHP

I'm wondering if to get to Chef Mickeys I should head to MK and hop on the monorail there. Can I do that? Would it be too short of a ride? Or would it be smarter to drive directly there?

Any suggestions?

I was thinking a monorail trip (even just for fun) would be a good break for the kids. Can I ride it and not get off......just go the whole loop if we were feeling we wanted to rest for a bit?

If you are going to the Contemporary for Chef Mickey's, you do not have to go to MK. Park at the Contemporary, and you can catch the Monorail from there. That monorail will stop at the other two resorts, Poly and GF, as well as the transportation center and MK. Also, by going to the Contemporary, you will not have to pay for parking at MK.

You can stay on the monrail as long as you want. If you have a lot of time, you might consider asking the attendants at the station if you could ride up front with the monorail engineer. You might have to wait for a couple of them, but it is a nice ride.

If you're going to be at MK and then you want to go to Chef Mickey's the same day, you should catch the resort monorail from MK and get off at the first stop. Driving from the MK to the Contemporary will take an extra 25-30 minutes to ultimately travel about 150 yards.

We always ride the monorail "for fun" at the beginning of each trip.
We start off our first night at Disney with dinner at Chef Mickeys and then a couple of times around on the monorail
It gets us all in the mood and then we start the parks the next day.

We thought it was a ride ...my daughter always wants to ride it even though we aren't "going" anywhere!

Okay okay...I like it too....we ride it over to Epcot and back
