My DH had back surgery last July. We are going to Disney World in March. Has anyone ever had back surgery and rode a roller coaster that hurt them after 8 months? Also any tips and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

I think the best person to ask whether or not this is safe would be his doctor. None of us knows exactly what your DH had done, what complications he's had (if any) and what his continued prognosis is. Some people may be fine while others would be risking anything from pain to permanent paralysis. His doctor will know his condition best.

Several years ago I had a kidney removed. My surgeon said it was OK to go to the parks, but consider for the next six months that any warnings for pregnant women, or people with heart conditions of bad backs applied to me.

I would strongly suggest that you discuss this with your surgeon.

Yeah, definitely check with the doctor. A family member of mine was told no roller coasters ever. Others have ridden after a healing period. Depends on the procedure, the cause, and the patient.

My daughter had rods put in her back from T4-pelvis and had to wait 6 months before she could ride roller coasters.

The surgeon said after 6 months it would be like it never happened. He occasionally has pain but usually after he's lifted lots of stuff. He had l3 and l4 fused. Thanks for the advice!

I think a lot depends on the shape of your back, what repair you had done, etc. You need to ask you doctor--not the board everyone is different!
