Riding at the front of the monorail?

We rode up front and I didn't directly ask the cast member on the platform from the TTC to Epcot if we could ride. I told her that we were only riding the monorail because my DS5 is so interested in trains that we had to go out of our way just to ride the monorail instead of a direct bus from our resort. She put us in a special spot and when the monorail came in the driver took us up front. This is one of the stories he tells everyone who asks what was your favorite part of Disney.

Now as for the driver (I don't remember his name) was so friendly and nice he had my DS on his lap when we were at the platform he showed him the controls. I didn't know we could have gotten him a pilot's licence. The driver forgot to give him one.

we have done this 3 times. This last time was with our ds3 who just loved it. The driver was very young and said he was on a internship for the summer. Not much to say, but not rude either. I was chatting him up trying to get some conversation out of him, but just answers to my questions. I asked him if he loved driving it and he said "well, its a job". :( But before we got on the monarail the man at the platform while we waited handed all three of us a license. My ds has not stopped talking about this since we have been home! A nice memory for him I guess!!!

We rode in the front after dinner at Chef Mickey's back to MK. The CM wasn't very chatty, but she wasn't rude. We didn't get a co-pilot's license, but that's OK. I knew from the boards that the licenses are a hit-or-miss thing. DS was pleased that he got to ride up front.

DH was actually the surly one in our group! He was in a hurry to get back to the resort and he could NOT understand why I wouldn't get on the first monorail. Good thing we only waited a minute or there might have been a scene for the "Have you seen something shocking" thread.

When my family and I went in Jan., we just asked the cast member there if we could, and he said "yes" only if no one else was in the front. There wasn't anyone, so we climbed aboard. The cast member driving was extremely nice to us, we talked about Disney World, what it's like to work there, the training you go through, and much more, from the Poly. to Magic Kingdom. He was great, and after we got off walked off the monorail, walked more about it. LOL! :goodvibes

Had a wonderful driver in Nov 2004. After dinner at CM caught the monorail at the CR. We were the only ones in line at the time and I asked the cm working the line if we could ride up front -- he seemed put out that we asked but did escort us to the front. fil, mil, dd4 and dd6 went up front and dh and I went in the next car. They all had a wonderful time. dds traded pins with the driver and he talked with everyone the entire ride. He gave all four of them licenses at the end.
