Ridiculous Products

There are some silly products out there (and I've bought a few...). I think a quesadilla (sp) is one of the dumbest - all you need is a frying pan or oven. My gluten free dd eats them a lot!

I agree with this one! I received the quesadilla maker as a gift and used it only once. What a waste. The frying pan was quicker, easier, and made better quesadillas. Off to the yard sale for you, quesadilla maker machine!

I admit to being a kitchen gadget junkie of sorts. I don't spend much on products I think are frivolous though.....I did get the cake pop maker for $15 on sale, and I was given a few items of similar nature. I have had to get rid of some items due to space, but I love kitchen gadgets!

I am actually going to make some cake pops today.

I admit to having had one. I got it for very cheap at a yard sale.

I used it quite a bit though.....the kids loved the shapes it burt on to the tortillas.....and it had pre-ridged sections for perfect sized wedges.

I used it for about 5 years before I finally decided I didn't have room for it anymore.

This seems pretty harsh. She already apologized. Her intent was certainly not to offend anyone. To her, those products seem frivolous. I'm sure she could find a lot of people who would agree with her. I stick my foot in my mouth all the time, similiar to how she did. No reason to cram it down her throat.

. I too have some of those useless gadgets and when I see them I ask myself, Self why in the world do I have all of these things. I too have a quesadilla maker never used still in the box
about 3 very nice stainless steel pot sets never used still in the box in the garage and many other things that are just taking up space. I just used the Magic bullet thingy 3 months ago after having it since 04
Needless to say it's junk now the bottom blade broke after 2 uses
I have a hot sandwich maker and electric griddle that I have yet to break out and use either. I would give them away as gifts, but I'm not sure anyone else would want them to take up space either

What I don't get is the combos of items either. This week in my local department store (UK) I saw a set of kitchen scales with an iPod dock (why do I want flour all over my iPod) and a 4 slice toaster with a built in radio!!!
Whatever next!
By the way, we had a donut maker as a present a few years ago - used it once then gave to a charity shop.

I view it as we all have things that are well... useless to others. Right now on my wish list at Amazon is a cookie jar that looks like Dr. Who's Tardis. I am sure most people would look at that $30 cookie jar and wonder what on God's green earth I was thinking putting it as something I wanted to buy On the other hand, during our latest move my step-grandmother gave us many, many kitchen gadgets that went straight to the goodwill pile that she thought would be extremely useful. Worth is in the eyes of the beholder

I'm with you and the OP, for me the less I have in my kitchen the better!!!!! To each their own though!!!!

I agree, I hate taking up space in my kitchen w/stuff like that but I also admit to owning some of it. DD really wanted an EZ Bake Oven but I knew it was a waste. The cupcake maker was a compromise. She loves all things mini so this was perfect. Much more of a pain than just throwing a pan in the oven but she loves it.

We bought DH a sandwich maker as a joke gift and he has used it a few times. I do want an iced tea maker even though I know I can just boil water on my own. lol

I calculated how many donuts I'd have to make in a donut maker for me to break even vs. just going to the donut shop when I want them.

Short answer is "WAY more than I should be eating!"

As far as the other devices go, I personally have no desire to eat a "cake pop". And I guess I'm old fashioned now because on the rare occassion I make cupcakes (once a year or so) I just use my oven.

So none of these would be worth the $$$ in my house. They are one "craze" I won't be partaking in!

I've owned/own an assortment of kitchen gadgets over the years. I can't help it, i love most of them even though I don't use them enough to warrant the space they take up, lol. But I will say that I usually buy them second hand from the goodwill or a yard sale, hang onto them for a couple of years and then donate them. And I usually only have one or two at a time. Right now the only thing I have that might qualify is a George Forman grill and a bread maker. Haven't used either in months.

I loved my iced tea machine. I wish I hadn't donated my popcorn popper because now I want one and they are $30. I do use my George Fourman quite a bit, easy grilled cheese. I used to have a sandwich maker...remember those? Oh and a Fry Baby and Fry Daddy.
