I am trying to come up with a complete list of the rides with stairs either in the queue or in the exit. I have to skip stairs as much as possible due to a hip injury. Also how does one board, regular line or special line.

Rides with Stairs
Disneyland
• Tiki Room – use elevator
• Jungle Cruise – used only when busy, use exit
• Indiana Jones – regular entrance, use elevator
• Tarzan’s Tree House – not accessible
• Haunted Mansion – ramp to the right of entrance
• Splash Mountain – use exit
• Mark Twain – ramp available
• Columbia – not accessible
• Thunder Mountain – use exit
• It’s a Small World – regular entrance, show pass to boarding CM
• Chip & Dale Treehouse – not accessible
• Mickey & Minnie’s House – use ramp
• Donald’s Boat – not accessible
• Nemo Submarines – alternate experience available
• Autopia – use elevator
• Space Mountain – regular entrance, show pass to boarding CM
• Innoventions – elevator to second level
• Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk Through – alternate experience available
• Main Street Train Station – not accessible
• All other Train Stations – use exit

California Adventure
• Grizzly River Run – show pass to boarding CM
• Redwood Creek Challenge Trail – avoid stairs
• Hyperion Theater (Aladdin) - use elevator
• Tower of Terror - show boarding CM, use right elevator
• Screamin’ – use elevator
• Golden Zepher – use elevator
• Goffy’s Sky School – use elevator
• Silly Symphony Swings – use elevator
• Mickey’s Fun Wheel – use left entrance, non-swinging – use exit
• Toy Story Mania – show pass to boarding CM

I have found that there are special entries for wheel chair accessibility. The entry for space mtn is through the exit you wait in a wheel chair line and the CM's come get you and you board from the opposite side. We have seen a whole different side of the rides from having to enter differently. On Indiana Jones there is an elevator that is for wheel chairs and as well as special loading. My daughter was in a wheel chair one year due to injury. Most rides have ADA access. The only attraction I know that doesn't have ADA access is Tarzan's Tree House. The Swings @ DCA have stairs but also has an elevator.

What you will want to do is go to guest servces, and get a GAC, and guide to the rides that will give you the information on where to enter.

Yeah I got a pass on our last trip but was never given a guide and a few rides surprised us with stairs that we had forgotten about. Space Mountain & its a small world, since the stairs are at the end.

I am just trying to come up with a list so I can be preparred.

I don't think there's a ramp to the Disneyland Railroad at Main Street, but at all other stations you can board without stairs.

If Jungle Cruise's line is long then it goes upstairs.

Golden Zephyr has stairs, as does Silly Symphony Swings. Not sure how you go about boarding...there have to be elevators.

Do you have an old park guide. There are icons following the list of an attraction. For example the "man Standing" icon means "Guest Must be Ambulatory". The icon with a guest getting out of a wheelchair means "Guest Must Transfer from Wheelchair/ECV". I never realized how much information is right there in your park guide until I looked. I hope this saves you time planning your magicalpixiedust:expierence. :tink:

They don't hand out this guide unless you ask. You will find it very helpful.

Also when you go to GS to get your pass, advise them stairs are a problem and the CM will show you the way without stairs.

I am going to send you a PM, as my advice will be detailed and honestly may not be appropriate, especially if someone finds this thread in the future, as things often change.

There are only a few attractions where stairs cannot be avoided.
sailing ship columbia
tarzans treehouse
main street station
sleeping beauty castle walkthrough
chip'n dale treehouse
donalds boat

Every other attraction is handicapped accessible by way of
alternate entry point, elevators, or ramps

Tell CM at city hall in Disneyland or guest services at DCA for guest assistance card, then:

Splash Mountain use exit
Big Thunder use exit
Indiana Jones regular line but use elevator just before boarding area
Space Mountain use handicap line near photo counter at exit
Jungle Cruise use handicap line to the left of boarding area

Tower of Terror regular line but use right library as left has stairs
Toy Story regular line bu tell CM when boarding and you will exit without stairs
Grizzly Rapids regular line but use handicap raft. CM's will direct you.
Scream'n use regular line but ask CM to use elevator just before boarding area (or board on exit side)

main street station
sleeping beauty castle walkthrough
Do they still have an alternative experience for this? I saw somewhere that they had this but don't recall seeing where it might be located. And no CM's around that area usually to ask.

It's in a little room near the exit of the ride, if I recall correctly. If that's the case then if you're facing the drawbridge, looking out at Main Street, it will be on your left.

I think it just plays the special feature walk-through from the Sleeping Beauty DVD. But it's a nice room and if you don't have the DVD it's probably worth looking at. :)

Due to an injury, I cannot do stairs and have been to DLR several times since this change to my world.

Go to City Hall, as skiingfast suggested. Tell the CM very specifically that you cannot do stairs and was told they could assist with making your visit enjoyable. They should give you two things. If they don't, ask for them.
1. A GAC with a no stairs stamp.
2. The guide that skiingfast mentioned which tells you where the accessible entrances are. (If you don't get this it's not the end of the world, but it's informative.)

Also, throughout your visit speak with the CM at the entrance to attractions, restaurants, stores, and at shows. They can point you in the "stairless" direction, as needed.

Yeah I got a pass on our last trip but was never given a guide and a few rides surprised us with stairs that we had forgotten about. Space Mountain & its a small world, since the stairs are at the end.
Perfect example! If you tell the CM at the entrance at Small World that you can't do stairs and show them your GAC, they route you a different way such that when you exit the boat at the end, you do not have to do any stairs. I am 99% sure the same is true for Space Mountain, but have not ridden it since my injury so I can't swear to it.

Malcon10t stated that Nemo and Aladdin cannot be viewed without stairs. This is not true for Aladdin and sort of not true for Nemo. At Aladdin, again, let the CM at the doors know your situation. They will route you accordingly. At Nemo, you can't actually get down into the submarine, but there is an Alternative Experience in which you (and your friends/family) go into a room instead of the submarine. There are portholes and you see and hear everything that you would if you were on the submarine, except you are in a room. :goodvibes

Haunted mansion also has a moving esclator at the end of the ride which is way worse than stairs. Its a steep incline and my husband nearly fell (it took both of us to keep him steady upright) to get to the top. As a result we tell them we want to go in and out the same way with his wheel chair. Short walks and stairs can be done by him but not that steep incline. Its not even a traditional esclator which he could do, its a belt that leans upward. People with muscle disablilty should kow about that one.

Malcon10t stated that Nemo and Aladdin cannot be viewed without stairs.
Actually, I would like to clarify. They asked for a list of rides with stairs, not rides that cannot be rode because of stairs. I assumed they were looking for a list so they were prepared to ask for the alternative. Both Nemo and Aladdin do have work arounds. Be aware that if they offer to let you use the elevator, there are still stairs in the upper areas. You will need to be in the orchestra seating.

To the OP, do you have problems walking up slopes? Or is it just stairs themselves?

As others have said, your first stop at the DLR should be city hall. Tell them your situation and they will give you the appropriate endorsement on a GAC. I have an arthritic knee and can walk a flat marathon but put a staircase there and I'm dead.

The problem with using some of the regular queues is that you may have to exit using stairs. Space and IASW are prime examples. Also, I find the ramp on Star Tours to be a little uncomfortable so I use the elevator there.

Rides that I always GAC-
Space Mtn
Star Tours
IASW
Thunder
Jungle River Cruise
Splash
Haunted- only 3 steps I know but…

I hardly ever ride the autopia but they do have an elevator to take you to the loading area after waiting in the regular Q.
There are steps also at the hotel stop of the monorail but there is an elevator there.

In DCA
Tower- if you aren't to the right side, you will be using steps
Grizzly Rapids- GAC raft after the regular queue
Screaming- again elevator after the regular q.
Toy Story Mania has a CAG car.
Goofy's Sky School- elevator exit

If I'm going to be riding the DLR railroad enter at New Orleans Square. Nice ramp that loads before the regular wait.

I may be missing a ride or 2. As an APer I tend to ride the same rides everytime I go.

For Space Mountain, there is a line outside the exit that they draw from. You are led back to the loading area and are boarded in a special rocket off to the side. When the rocket is loaded, you replace an empty rocket on the track and you ride. When you return, you are again placed off to the side, unloaded, and then a new group loads. You exit the ride on the same side you entered the ride and there are no stairs.

I was wearing a rather large leg brace during parts of last year and it was nice to have plenty of time to load the rocket, and of course not having to negotiate stairs. But it was a looonnnggg wait. You can't FP it and the line is longer than standby many times. I definitely rode it less than when I can use FP.
