Rides with smoke and strobe lights

Hi

I am going to be staying at Universal with my niece on 10/11 December. I absolutely hate rides that have too much smoke and strobe lights - the ones that make you feel you are going faster than you are. I also hate simulators!

I went to Universal years ago and on the Jaws ride, when Jaws bit the cable the whole boat filled with smoke and you could not breathe - this only happened for a few seconds but it was horrible and has made me wary of rides with smoke.

If I know what rides I would not like it will make it easier for me to enjoy the others without worrying if there is going to be a sudden smoke onslaught.

Many thanks
Tina

Jimmy Neutron and the Simpsons are simulators, there is smoke in Terminator, mist in ET, trying to think of others....

There's no "real" smoke though on any ride, even Jaws. It's either fog/steam (produced from moisture like a humidifier does) or fog from Carbon Dioxide (like the fog produced by dry ice.) "Real" smoke is from burning something like wood or paper. Essentially it is just moisture like the fog/steam you get when you take a hot shower. That shouldn't affect anyone's breathing not even asthmatics.

Something went wrong with the Jaws ride and people could not breathe, it was horrible. When it cleared they had to finish the ride as people were freaking out, esp the ones with young children. When Jaws bit the cable it went bang and smoke poured out. After this I have not been able to go on rides with what I term as smoke although I know I can breathe through it, it's just in my mind now with the possibility that something could go wrong again.
I know, highly unlikely but I still remember it. Having said that I am going to brave the Jaws ride again!

There's nothing that could make smoke at the cable. They do add a "smell" to the fog so it smells like burning rubber but there is nothing that actually burns. Maybe you all just got a little extra steam and the smell freaked everyone out. The mind can certainly play tricks on you and make you think that you can't breathe especially if the smell was very strong. Just think of a skunk. The odor makes you feel like you can't breathe although technically you can. I get that way when I am around someone with too much perfume on. I cough and my eyes water. I may have an allergy to something in the perfume but I also know that part of it is psychological.
