Hi, I also posted this on the Disability boards, I need all the help I can get.

My DS15 broke his ankle last week and he has switched to a walking cast today. The cast is below the knee (so theres knee movement) to his toes. I'm not sure if he'll use his crutches or if I can talk him into a wheelchair as I'm sure it would be very hard to use crutches with all the distances you travel.

I have a good feel of Usf/IOA as I asked on that board already but how about Disney? We are doing both parks. Does anyone know if there are rides he will not be allowed on because of the cast? The website doesn't specify. He will be able to board the rides himself (slowly, lol) so that shouldn't be a problem. He loves all the thrill rides.

Any information, help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Halfway through my WDW last June I tripped and fell, and tore ligaments in my foot. I didn't have a cast, but it was wrapped up and clearly injured (swollen an blue/purple!) I still went on all the rides I wanted to. It actually worked to our advantage, DH pushed me in a wheelchair. On most rides, we waited a little while and then CM would just give me and my whole group Fast Passes to come back a little later. Or, they pushed me through certain areas of the line that were hard to manage with a wheelchair. While it kinda stunk that I was in pain, everything still worked out and we had a blast!

I don't know about the rides, but get him a wheelchair or one of those motorized cart things. I spent a day walking around a zoo with a walking cast when I was 13, BIG mistake. He will be VERY sore in no time and won't be a lot of fun to be around. A wheelchair might not be as "cool" for him so I would investigate the motorized cart. You also have the added benifit of having someplace to hold your bags-kind of like having a stroller again.

thanks for the replies. Its my understanding that they don't rent scooters to people under 18 though.

Anyone else come across ride restrictions with a leg cast (below the knee) or a brace?

My son was in walking cast last summer for broken tibia!! We rented a scooter from a place listed on the disability board. He managed all rides that he wanted to go on. He was stuck on space mountain over an hour, and fianally firemen carried him down!! A story he will tell forever!! That being said check with the rental companies, it made his trip more enjoyable, and mine less stressful. That all being said he was 20. But I sure would check!!

thanks shopgirl. On the Disney website they say that if you have a cast on, you may not be permitted on some of the rides for the safety of other guests but it sounds like they really don't restrict people...phew.

wow, the ride was stuck? or he was stuck? That must have been something, lol
