i know a lot of it depends on the child but on the disney website they are recomending some rides that i have read in reviews would be too scary for small ones. ash will be 22 months when we go so im gonna start her off gentle maybe iasw. but what after dumbo? does that go very high? i just dont want to scar her for life lol. thats probably what happened with me!!! also on the kiddies rides are they strapped in im just afraid in case she tries to jump out lol

thanks

I'm taking my little man (16 months) in October and we will be doing to following:

IASW
POTC
PM
Peter Pan
Dumbo
Pinnochio
Carosel
Dumbo
Tea Cups
Alice Labrinth
Casey Jr
Storybook Ride
Orbitron
Main Street Motors
Disneyland Train

In most of them they aren't strapped in. For Dumbo and Orbitron they are as far as I remember. What we are planning to do it to put his reigns on him and hold on to them very tightly so that he can't make a dash for it.

I think only you really know what your child will cope with but most of the above should be ok.

yeah good idea about the reigns!! i will have to dig mine out.

My boy's addicted to Pirates so I don't want him trying to climb out of the boat on POTC! I don't know what made me think of reigns, I'm not usually that prepared :thumbsup2

Pinnochio and Snow White can be a bit scary IMO. They both dwell more on the dark aspects of the films for some reason. Snow White herself hardly features. But they are both dark and loud and vaguely threatening so just something to be aware of.

I left Snow White out for that reason.

My memory of Pinnochio isn't that great to be honest so that's another to maybe leave off or do before you take little one on there.

Oh and the reason for Snow White being darker is that is based on a ride called 'Snow White's Scary Adventures' from Disneyland but when it was taken to DLRP it was just called Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and I guess something was lost in translation .

we took our dd at 12 months then again when she was 2 and she loved most of the rides, we did all the ones Cap n jack mentioned and she was fine, she loved POTC and PM but her favourites had to be Teacups, Dumbo, Flying Carpets and Storybook Land to name a few :)

We last went when my kids are 3 and 5 yrs old.
Dd2 freaked out on the peter pan ride (too dark) and tried to get out! They were both frightened of the dragon in the castle and any of the characters if they came anywhere near us! They spent most of the time at the character breakfast crying, and some of the time under the table! :sad2:

They loved most of the other rides for their age, the parades and the shows in the studio park though.

I'm hoping next years trip (with dds then 7 and 10 yrs) will be more successful and less scary!

Ah yes I forgot my DD (2 1/2 at the time) hated Peter Pan and POTC when she first went on them, and refused to go on again. 3 months later they had turned into her favourite rides when we went back.....:rolleyes1

When I was 7 we went to disneyland (the original) and I hated POTC, I cried and screamed to get off the whole way around, whereas I can't see my little girl turning an eyelash she seems to have no fear whatsoever lol

I really think it's all dependant on the individual child to be honest. My DD2 was 9 months at the time and loved the Peter Pan ride, but my DS who was 4 hated it. Just start her off on some of the gentler rides and see how she copes.

My daughter is 7, and is still a complete wuss.
We first went to DLRP when she was 5, and she didn't like any of the dark rides (including Peter Pan). She loves it now, and its one of her absolute favourites.
She still doesn't like Pinocchio, and wild horses wouldn't get her back on Snow White :scared1: .

I've still not managed to get her on POC, but we've done a deal (this was her suggestion). This coming trip, we're going with my sister and her family. DD has said she will go on POC, as long she sits in the middle of us :goodvibes !

And she wants to go on BTM!!!!

This is a great thread thanks :) We are going end Sept with our DDs - DD1 will be 3.5 years and DD2 5 mths! DD1 has always been completely fearless but recently has started getting more scared of things and also suffers from nightmares if she sees anything that scares her - she doesn't even have to say at the time that it scares her (or have a reaction) - it's just later she has nightmares!!! I think it's her overactive imagination and the age she's at really :confused3

So I'm pretty worried about DLP tbh as I don't want to take her on something that she will find scarey and we have repercussions for nights on end afterwards  That's why I was worried about the halloween decs being up etc but we'll just see how it goes - will make a list of these rides you've mentioned - thanks!

Pinnochio and Snow white might be a bit much then really, I personally think they are too dark for very little ones.

Would be much nicer to have a lovely high ho ride :)

Yes we'll give those two a miss I think. Must tell DH beforehand though as he's bound to see them and say 'oh let's go on those' as DD1 is a Princess nut! But I don't think it's worth the upset even trying her just in case! ;)
