Can anyone give me any idea which rides MIGHT really tend to induce dizziness. My DH is susceptible to vertigo. Do they post this kind of info before you get on the ride? Hopefully some of you guys who visit WDW often can help me..we haven't been to WDW since the 80's so we're a little clueless.

I would avoid Mad Tea Party. Possible Rock N' Roller Coaster, since it goes upside down. Maybe avoid Dumbo and Aladdin too. There aren't too many spinning rides at Disney.

If spinning rides make him sick, don't do the orange side of Mission:Space. In Soarin', you look like you're looking down from the sky because it's like an Imax theater. The one that you probably shouldn't do is the Swiss Family Tree House. And come to think about, the really tall steps in front of the Mexico building gets to me sometimes, so I would suggest going up the wheelchair entrance. You might want to pass on Tower of Terror and Splash Mtn also, unless it's just standing in high places that bothers him. That's all I can think of for now.

 Here are some rides that sometimes make me dizzy and nausea and may not be good for someone with vertigo:

MK
Mad Tea Party
Dumbo
Cinderella's Golden Carousel
The Barnstormer
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
The Haunted Mansion (the ride turns you around backwards and sideways, also steep when going down)
The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
Space Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Splash Mountain (the drop at the end and rocking of the boat may cause dizziness)
Pirates of the Caribbean (the first drop and rocking of the boat may cause dizziness)

DAK
Kilimanjaro Safari (bumpy ride)
Expedition Everest
Kali River Rapids (bumpy ride, the rocking of the raft and you may go down the drop backwards)
Primeval Whirl
Dinosaur
Triceratop Spin

Epcot
Test Track (hard/fast turns)
Soarin'
Mission Space
Maelstrom (the rocking of the boat and drop may cause dizziness)
Spaceship Earth (steep climb in your car)

DHS
Rock 'n Roller Coaster
Tower of Terror
Star Tours

:sad2: Also, the boats, ferries and monorail might cause you problems too. Sorry the list is so long. Sometimes, I get dizzy just walking around the parks or looking up. So, I have to be careful too. I hope that helps!

Have a magical trip! :wizard:

I cannot do any of those stimulated rides like Star Wars, Body Wars, Mission Space etc

I went on Mission Space (before the tame version) and I was deathly sick the rest of the day, nausea and headache and super dizzy

My DH has vertigo and didn't have any problems on the rides.

it depends on how bad his vertigo gets. Its better to be safe than sorry though, but don't be anxious about trying a few mild ones. I don't think Spaceship Earth would be bad until the end when the "stars" surround your whole plane of vision as you go backwards down the slope. I find that vertigo is triggered by vision and motion combined. For that reason I personally don't think rides like Space Mountain would be that dizzying because there's no focal point for the ride. I would avoid Soarin' at all costs as well as Mad Tea Party (obviously). I only get vertigo from video stuff mostly, so Soarin' was all fine and good until the night time city light scene. Then I turned a little green. :crazy2:

Thanks everyone:) I think it depends on the severity of his past attacks of vertigo as to probability of future problems on certain rides.

Sounds like Soarin' , Mad Tea Party and Mission Space wouldn't be for him for SURE . I'll read up more on the other rides you all mentioned in some of the Guide books I have. Looks like I'll be Soarin' solo because I'm not going to miss that;)

I too suffer from vertigo. I would say that he needs to be the judge of how he feels at the time. I get dizzy very easily, & cannot even look up most of the time. However, most of the "dizzy" rides ( big coasters & virtual reality) I can do 1x without a huge problem. Rides that always make me sick are star wars, mission space, teacups & everest can't do these at all. TOT makes me very dizzy, but can recover from it fairly quickly. I love soarin, but DO NOT look down. I do keep my med. with me just in case tho. Who wants to ruin a day at disney?

I know enough to stay off Tea Cups, Mission Space and Star Wars but I was suprised at how bad my vertigo was on Expedition Everest. I was fine on everything else.

I get vertigo quite easily as well... star tours was by far the worst for me (still not sure why I chose to risk it :confused3 ) - no problem with Soarin, wouldn't do the teacups or orange mission space for a night in the castle  !!

Enjoy your trip!!!

Any Motion simulator rides, Mad Tea Party and Mission Space are going to get you dizzy no matter who you are.

Boats and rollercoasters depending on how easily he gets dizzy.

I felt awful for a few days after Mission Space. I just felt like I was walking crooked when I got off the ride, and it took a few days to dissipate.

I have vertigo and it was Star Tours that did me in. I came really close to losing my dinner outside the store after exiting the ride.

I won't try Mission Space or the movies in the World Showcase in Epcot because those kinds of things trigger my vertigo.

I can't even watch my kids play our Wii or Gamecube especially the games that involve racing around a track.

Soarin' bothers me a little but I like it so much I've learned to cope with that one.

I have vertigo and get motion sick everywhere, even in the bathtub and swimming pools. When at WDW, I take one Bonine every morning. Bonine is a different drug from Dramamine; I find it doesn't make me as tired all the time, they are chewable, and only need to be taken once a day. I need this just to handle the tram in from the parking lots! I would NEVER go to WDW without my Bonine! So, here's my list:

THINGS TO AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Mission Space (both sides), Space Mountain, Barnstormer (really bad), tea cups, Astro Orbiter (WORST of the bunch, even DD14 won't ride this one and she rides EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE), RnRC, Star Tours, Primeval Whirl, Body Wars (if it's open). AVOID RIDES WITH SIMULATORS!!!

ONE RIDE WITH BONINE: Soarin' (close your eyes if it makes you queasy, the seat isn't moving at all), BTMRR, TestTrak, Dumbo, Aladdin's carpets, Cinderella's Carousel, Kali River Rapids, and Triceratops spin. More than one ride will make me nauseated, and it lasts for several hours (long enough to ruin the day).

I choose to skip Splash, ToT, RnRC, and Everest, but that's because I don't like the falling feeling on roller coasters. I have ridden Splash mountain and don't get motion sick at all, but have never done the other 3.

Be careful watching the movies!! I get queasy while watching most of the films like Mickey's Philharmagic, WS films from the different countries, Timekeeper (closed now)- anything with big moving pictures, or that play on a circular screen. The good thing about these are that the seats don't move at all- just close your eyes if you feel queasy!

I've never had a problem on Spaceship Earth, Maelstrom, or the Safari. I've never been on Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Liberty Belle, or Dinosaur. I ride the monorail, ferries, train around MK, parking lot trams, and Friendships but that's with the bonine under my belt.

I am OK on everything else, I think, but remember that I always take one Bonine as soon as I get up each day. good luck!!

I take the Bonine every morning too! It works pretty well. Most days I only need one. Like I said before tho, I do keep my presc. handy, just in case. Oh Ya, I forgot about the 360 movies, stay away from them!

Try ginger capsules they work very well - take them before your day begins with food and keep some with you.

I have mild vertigo and absolutely cannot do any spinning rides like the teacups (ick just thinking about it!).
I also have some trouble on roller coasters but if I make sure that I have eaten and have taken the ginger capsules I am ok for Splash Mountain. No problems at all with Haunted Mansion since everything is pretty slow moving- it is the quick jerky motions of Thunder Mountain that just about did me in and because I had barely eaten for hours. I was bad off for the rest of the night but I felt a little better after eating some plain food (plain pretzel and coke or ginger ale).

Don't underestimate the benefit of the ginger. For kids bring ginger ale/ginger beer) or real ginger snaps not just ginger flavored. It doesn't work the same as the capsules ahead of time but helps ease it after it does happen. A lot of boats and ships have them on hand for kids and adults alike.

Also, Brioschi which is an effervescent antacid. It comes in a big bottle or small packets. It does not have aspirin like alka seltzer. It only has sodium bicarbonate, sugar and lemon flavor. You put it in water and it fizzes all over-kind of pleasant tasting. It looks like pieces of small coral, when we were kids my Mom would give us a couple of pieces to suck on to feel better with an upset stomach. The pieces fizz in your mouth and kids like it. Don't do too much of it (not candy tell the kids!) or you will have some gastric problems but that doesn't happen with a normal dose.
If it is not in your neighborhood drug store try on-line it is an ethnic Italian thing so may not be available everywhere.

Good luck and no spinning rides!

I don't generally have any issues feeling dizzy on rides, but felt very weird (light headed, dizzy, just sort of out of it) after Expedition Everest. I think it was the downhill backwards part that got me.

I would still do the ride again in a heartbeat, it was one of my favorites in all the parks, but I was surprised for a roller coaster (no spinning or simulation) that I felt that way.

Just something to keep in mind.

I did star tours and dinosaur. Both made me dizzy and light headed. It cleared up quickly but never will I try them again. Soarin' I looked straight ahead or slightly up and I did not have a problem. BTR did not make me dizzy but I am not crazy about rollercoasters so that one was just ok. Really your DH needs to see how he feels at the time. He will know which ones he can handle. Also, look on you tube as some of the rides are on there. I did watch some and they changed my mind about riding them.:rotfl:
