Rides Switching Tiers at Epcot and DHS

bottom line- this makes me not want to go to these parks, and I have cut back on how many days I will visit them. They need more E-ticket rides and that is the bottom line!

The changes to the Tiering to move Maelstrom and character spot to tier 2 is making you not want to go to these parks? That seems wrongfully applied - this change should make it better as those FP are not easier to obtain pre-booking...

Okay people. Can you please explain this tier system? Last year when we went on our annual Disney vacation in September, FP+ was just being tested and we were not part of it. Obviously with the full roll out, we will be using it this November when we return. My understanding was that you get to preselect your Fast passes for each day--3 a day. Now I am seeing something about tiering? What? :confused3 Seems like the old days of A-E tickets.

Can you please educate me as to what all these tiers mean?
Also, if you use your 3 FP's up, do you get to get others like in days past?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

You should find mesaboys post in theme park strategy board - it will walk you right thru! He keeps the 1st post up to date and everyone is great at answering questions . I don't know how to link it on my phone or I would!

At Epcot and DHS they have two tiers. Epcot tier one includes test track, soarin, illuminations, and living with the land. The rest of the FP options at Epcot are tier two.

DHS has TSMM, fantasmic, rockin roller coaster, and great movie ride as tier one with the rest being tier two.

If you want the best info on fastpass + go to mesaboys FP+ strategy thread on the theme parks board best thread available on it.

I am sorry no, not Maelstrom, my whole family thinks this ride stinks and we skip it if there is ever a wait longer than 5 minutes.

If I can not get on both TT and Soarin without an obnoxious wait then yes, it makes me not want to go to this park. It is the tiering that I really do not like and for that matter the overscheduling of everything. For HS it is the same story. The old FP system allowed me to decide as I want and I still could get E-ticket choices. They need more rides and updating of many of the rides they already have. We are starting to look at this park as just a nice place to have dinner if it is convenient.

They have made changes to the FP system that is tolerable, but for my family we are not really happy about the changes and find this a turn off. We will not be going to Disney in 2015 for this reason, and this is after going to Disney every year for the past 7 years.

Wow! Since I already had FP+ booked for the Land and GMR before the switch, I was now able to trade those for TT and RnRC. Now we have Soarin and TT for our Epcot day and RnRC and Fantasmic for our HS day. Super bonus from news tip. Thank you

Ok, hold on a sec....

Am I understanding this correctly?: So if I have a Living with the Land (a Tier 2 when I booked it) FP+, I can swap that (now a Tier 1 FP+) for another EPCOT Tier 1 FP+, even though I already have another one booked (my original Tier 1 when I first booked)? Thus, I would be able to hold 2 Tier 1 FP+s and 1 Tier 2? Same for DHS with Great Movie Ride? This would be amazing! But I am afraid to try it in case it won't let me. Can someone please confirm this is how it would play out (pending availability, of course)?

TIA!

Yep it works! I had fp for test track, spaceship earth, and living with the land.

Changed spaceship earth to maelstrom (now both tier 2, maelstrom was tier 1 when I originally set up) and changed living with the land to soarin (now both tier 1), kept my test track as well.

Now I've got test track, maelstrom, and soarin. SO excited, feel like I hit the Disney FP+ lottery! Now I just wish I'd FP'd GMR too!
