Rides stopping?

On your average MK day, how many rides will have breakdowns/stops for you?

Just wondering. Our last trip was in 2010 and we were pretty sure we were jinxing every attraction we boarded.

Space mountain-about an hour, Buzz-20 minutes, TTA- 5 min., HM (two visits) 5-10 min each. We thought perhaps the HM delay was to board special needs guests. But it was just a hunch.

That same visit, POC was closed all day and worst of all- a Guy had a heart attack in Tiki Birds while my kids were there.

This was all in one day!

Prior trips-maybe one issue or none for us.

Haven't had bad luck except with Splash mountain which I've never gotten a chance to ride.

The most 101's I've ever had was 6 in one day... however, it was raining very badly that day and rain obviously effects the computers.

Normally, it's more like 1.

Averaged over many years, we probably experience a couple of stoppages a day. HM and Spaceship Earth are the ones that first come to mind. Usually it is to allow a handicapped guest to board the ride. We've only been evacuated due to a breakdown twice- for POTC and Splash Mtn. Honestly, ride breakdowns are no big deal for us. We just move on to something else and come back later. If its down for the rest of the day we return on another day or visit. That has rarely happened.

When are you going next? I think I'd like to avoid visiting the parks when you are there.

I've never had that much bad luck. I'd say we probably average about 1 ride a day that will shut down while we are on it or while we are in line. Most shut downs while we are on the ride are short - 10 minutes or less. Splash Mountain seems to be one that we regularly have issues with.

I just want to say that almost every attraction at WDW goes down at least 1 time a day. You often don't just know it.

There can be many reasons. As mentioned many which are interpreted as being "broken" is really just the ride being stopped to load someone needing special assistance.

Sometimes rides are stopped because there is a safety issue at the loading area, like someone not getting in the vehicle quick enough. Or someone standing in an unsafe area.

Sometimes rides close due to weather.

Sometimes someone has gotten ill in a theater type attraction and they are closed while waiting for it to be cleaned up.

Other than that, the ride systems at WDW are highly complex, they are not carnival type attractions you just simply switch on and off. If a ride is E-stopped or malfunctions it requires maintenance to come out and inspect and restart the ride. Which can take time.

In all of my years visiting WDW, I can only recall being stuck on a ride once and that was Splash Mtn 3 years ago...we had to be taken off but that was more fun than annoying.

Rides being down is generally not a big deal as I recall.

It also may depend on the time of year. Two trips ago we visited in early August, certainly peak season. Visited both WDW and US/IoA. Everything seemed to be having breakdowns or other technical difficulties. Last trip we visited the slow week post-Thanksgiving. We had absolutely no breakdowns.

On my 1993 trip, I got stuck on 11 rides, most notably 25 minutes in the sky buckets directly above the castle, and Horizons stopped just after my father/sister got out of the car in front of me and my mom, while my mom and I sat for 10 minutes waiting to be able to get out next.

Other than that, about once per trip? I got stuck on Haunted Mansion at Disneyland last time I went, and on Spaceship Earth on my 2010 trip. Both times were at the point you go downhill backwards. Actually I think I've gotten stuck at that point on WDW's HM also.

Last month we got stuck on POC for about 5-10 minutes, right by the mermaids. My sister now hates the "jolly sailer bold" song.

This past November, we got stuck on Buzz Lightyear for about 5 minutes. While my friends were shooting and earning points, I was trying to shoot but no points earned from a weird angle. Also Spaceship Earth stalled a few times in one ride.

All the time, and sometimes it is actually fun like the year we were riding Splash Mountain after dark in the pouring rain and the ride kept stopping at the worst times and we could not help but laugh. We were so soaked when we got off we had to buy towels and clothes Now a bad experience was in the Haunted Mansion - we were stuck int he grave yard for well over 20 minutes, but the music and animation (and darkness) kept going. One of my DS-7 twins was so freaked out by the whole thing he still won't go back on HM, unless it is Christmas time at DLR - that one he loves.

Splash Mountaint: countless times. I can't even hazzard a guess as to how many times we've been stuck on there or got to the entrance only to find it has gone down.

Space Mountain a few times, once when we were just about to board. We waited about 20 minutes and decided to leave so no idea how long it to come back up but we have also had two or three FP's that we could not use in 2011 and 2012 when it broke down and we were park hopping.

BTMR twice.

Aside from Splash, which in 2012 was a bit of a joke, considering how many days we have spent at MK in total this is not bad going.

I have never been on a ride that has stopped for more than a couple of minutes. These were alsays omnimover type rides and I assume the stoppage was to accommodate loading/unloading of special needs guests. One stop in HM right in front of the singing busts was particularly long, but I didn't really mind!

I've been stopped for just a couple of minutes on HM and SE on multiple occasions, probably to load disabled guests as mentioned previously.

I did get stuck on EE once for about 45 minutes - we got 3 anytime FPs out of it. It was actually kinda cool as we were in the mountain when it stopped.

I've gotten stuck on almost everything. One time on the HM they turned the lights on. Talk about seeing it different.

TTR was down for us for over 30 minutes once. They finally escorted us off the ride where it had stopped. Came close to missing an ADR at CRT, but we made it!

During the entire length of our trip in 2011, Test Track was having major issues. When I finally got a chance to ride it for the first time ever, it broke down about 2 minutes in. Not sure why, but something was burning, it reeked, there was smoke, and it was moving really slow. I thought, "wow this is really boring, why does everyone like it so much?" Then they stopped it and had us exit the ride. Told us it was down and gave us all fast passes to come back later. I think I finally rode it at the end of the day. I remember basically stalking it until it reopened.

I've been here for 6 days only two rides have stopped for a brief time. Then started back up. Small world 10 minutes, haunted mansion about 5.

It seems more often than not Haunted Mansion stops briefly whenever we ride it. On one occasion it stopped four times. But each time was 30 seconds or less.

At DL last May our log on Splash Mountain got stuck 99% up the final large hill. We waited about 15 minutes before a maintenance crew came to evacuate us. I asked if they could just push us over the top but they wouldn't go for it. Drat!! Anyway, it was fun climbing down the hill and exiting through some back corridors, and we got an anytime any ride FP for the trouble.

Big Thunder Mountain also stopped briefly once on one of the chain lifts.
