Rides, Slides, Eats & Meets Oct DISmeet Trip. 5/6-Ch 14 Closing Thoughts

im with you on the tonga toast, if im going to have something sweet for breakfast it better be hot glazed/or chocolate-filled donuts.

as for plain eggs, they better be sitting with some good cheese melted in them.:thumbsup2

I
We had eaten at Kona for dinner before, and it was a great meal so I was excited about doing the breakfast there. Everyone else really enjoyed their meal, and the big thing for me is that the Tonga Toast is really a lot of food, and just seemed to get sweeter and sweeter. But there was nothing wrong with the quality and I would definitely go back, so I know you and Megan will really enjoy it! :yay:

And yes, I guess you will soon be making an appearance in this TR also............. ;)

think we will stick with breakfast this trip...will be doing the monorail tour of the resorts looking at the decorations!

yes, I guess I will be making an appearance...hope they will be good photos of me :thumbsup2 and you better make sure they are of Judy or she'll hunt you down :rotfl::rotfl:

I love bananas, and often have them cut up on cereal for breakfast. The first two or three bites were pretty good, but when you start to get the bananas plus the sugar sprinkled on the outside plus the sweetness of the strawberry compote.........it gets overwhelming quickly! If I did try the Tonga Toast again, I think I would just keep the compote on the side and just dip a little at a time, or maybe even do some of the bites with none at all.

I hate bananas. I was very low on potassium when pregnant with Markie and I had to eat one every day. Now I can't stand the smell of them and when I make the buys banana bread, Mark has to "smash" the bananas for me. :lmao:

Maybe you will hit the lottery and you can stay there and invite me down to stay with you so we can have a DISmeet! The Poly would be a great place for that, although knowing us we would probably have our first DISmeet at one of the parks, like DHS (ToT anyone?) or more likely somewhere in Epcot since you love stopping for those adult beverages. :goodvibes

If I win the lottery, I'm staying at the AKL in a one-bedroom suite for two weeks. :rotfl:

You'd have to get in line for me to invite you down. Seems when I win the lottery, I've got several people who asked before you to bring them down so we could meet. Yes, I think Epcot would be the perfect spot for a DISmeet. ;)

Be still my heart...the Polynesian will always be my home resort even if it's now way out of the budget. Thanks so much for the photos - next best thing to being there. :goodvibes Lots of wonderful memories of stays there with my kids. :cloud9:

Not much of a fan of Kona - don't really get why it is so popular. We've tried a few times but never had a good luck - we found it expensive and food so-so at best. We tried Tonga Toast back in 1982 and that was the last time. Not a fan of bananas in French toast and it is Sooo darn sweet!

Andrew's breakfast looks yummy! ::yes:: That's a shame about the sausage. :sad2: Oh my gosh, the OJ is soooo yummy!!!

Have you tried Ohana's breakfast? Never expected to enjoy it as I am so NOT a fan of Stitch, but it was one of my all time favorite breakfasts - even as a character breakfast. Rosie and I might have to enjoy Kona and Ohana's before the cruise.:thumbsup2

Very nice birthday update for Rosie!! ;) :cool1:

I want the Big Kahuana !!! I love bananas but not in french toast !! I also put salt on my french toast:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Salt on French Toast is a new one for me....I put salt on cantaloupe...and butter and sugar on white rice!' Yum!!

It is the English in me savory and sweet don't mix !! So pancakes need salt and butter as does french toast !! I also am NOT a maple flavor fan !! Lordy Christine I don't like Chocolate cake or maple flavored anything !!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I would LOVE some of your Kona Breakfast RIGHT NOW! I would take any of it, looks yummy, even the Tonga Toast!

I am sorry that you ended up with a dish that you did not enjoy at Kona! But I totally understand your feelings towards the Tonga Toast. I was very happy when I was there in 2009 with a friend that she ordered it (and liked it) because I was afraid it would be too sweet for me. This way I could try her dish and come to the conclusion that all me fears about sweetness had been well founded. I had the Macadamia Nut Pancakes which were delicious. And an incredibly portion.

However, I have to say that I enjoyed the pecan pancakes at Olivia's even more, pecans just taste more of nuts than the rather bland macadamia nuts. So, for me Olivia's is now my first choice for sit down breakfast at WDW - might try Kouzzina on my next trip though as I hear good things about that. For buffet Boma is still the #1!

I have to agree with Olivias, their eggs benedict are awesome, and Boma buffet for breakfast is still #1:banana::banana:

Oooh, great Kona update Marvie.:thumbsup2

I don't get the hype over the Tonga Toast either, it doesn't look appealing at all to me.:confused3 Bummer that you couldn't have surmised that BEFORE ordering, right?;) It looks sickly sweet to me, like diabetic shock sweet. First lesson when anything is offered on the side like the strawberry sauce...use it as a dip. Then if you don't like the flavor combo, at least it isn't dumped all over your meal. I say that from experience which involved a very tart terriyaki sauce :sad1:.

Personally I love the Big Kahuna, lots of variety which I like. Mickey waffles make any day special and you can never have too many. You just can't.

Overall it looks like your meal was a success! And you've given me an idea about hitting rope drop at MK and then hopping the monorail for a latish breakfast. Thanks!:goodvibes

Thought about having cheese in my eggs this morning, then cooked them without it. Reading this just reminded me I didn't go with my original intention......:(

I will try not to post anything that is embarrassing to anyone...............and especially Judy!!! :duck:

If I were to win the lottery, I'm pretty sure there aren't enough good friends that I would have to leave any of them out. I can't imagine one whole building at the Poly for two or three nights would make much of a dent in $50M+

I want the Big Kahuana !!! I love bananas but not in french toast !! I also put salt on my french toast:rotfl2::rotfl2:
First a Hot Italian...........now you want the Big Kahuna???

Salt on French Toast is a new one for me....I put salt on cantaloupe...and butter and sugar on white rice!' Yum!!
Salt on French Toast........no. Salt on Cantaloupe....no, but not unusual. Butter and sugar on rice.......interesting combination! ::yes::

So it looks like with the conflicts you and I have with each other at times, you must be "savory".......... :scratchin

I would LOVE some of your Kona Breakfast RIGHT NOW! I would take any of it, looks yummy, even the Tonga Toast!

Thanks for the St. Patrick's Day wishes Judy!!! Hope you had a wonderful day!

And yes, any of those items at Kona right now would be great, because we would be enjoying time at Disney..............even on a beautiful day like we had today!!! What a great weekend weather-wise, wasn't it!!! Hope you and the family had plenty of chances to get out and enjoy it!

Thanks Magdalene! Glad to hear the great review on the Macadamia Pancakes!

I agree about Olivia's........great food and very relaxing, breakfast and dinner! Haven't tried Kouzzina, so that might need to be added to the list, and Boma has always been high on my must-do for breakfast, but just haven't worked it in yet. Dinner at Boma is really great too IMO!

Thanks Christine! Hope you had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day!!!

Never had eggs benedict, but the pancakes, omelets and other items at Olivia's are great! And Boma is high on the list!!!:thumbsup2

Great to see you drop by Molly! Hope you and the family are well! :goodvibes Actually, I didn't cover all of the Tonga Toast with the compote, so I did get to enjoy some of it with regular syrup, but by then I was already on sugar overload! I think I might actually prefer the Big Kahuna also, because of all the different tastes you get!

MMMMM Kona. Need to put it on the list for Breakfast. Have done dinner a few times now.

I totally understand the Tonga Toast thing, and will probably go for the Macadamia nut pancakes.

I hope you made up for lost time at the MK.....

Salt on French Toast........no. Salt on Cantaloupe....no, but not unusual. Butter and sugar on rice.......interesting combination! ::yes::

I'm surprised you don't know about butter and sugar on white rice - I think is a southern tradition. Maybe it's regional? My paternal grandmother was from Mississippi and she made the most delicious food. I've met other southerners who will not eat white rice without sugar and butter...it is soooo yummy! Rice must be hot so butter can melt. Yum.

I remember when Rosie named the title of our first PTR " 2 grannies looking for a Hot Italian"!! :faint: :rotfl:

Olivia's Pecan Pancakes sound delicious - must add that to the breakfast list!

Oh Here we go again !!It was just such an INNOCENT remark that started the Search for the Hot Italian!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:
Innocent? Did you really refer to an action of yours as innocent??? :rotfl:

Well of course.......... uh, maybe not???

That definitely must be regional, but not from my region of the south. Now butter BEANS maybe, but not butter and sugar. More likely rice is great for adding chicken, or sausage, or often gravy depending on the meal! :thumbsup2
