Rides, Slides, Eats & Meets Oct DISmeet Trip. 5/6-Ch 14 Closing Thoughts

What a nice surprise to find a Marv Elous update this morning! :cool1: First I've seen the TS inside queue so the photos are a nice peek! Me thinks a picture of Rosie with the spoons is a must on her next visit.

Great idea! Hope they are still there.

Not having young ones the last several years, and not being much of a fan of animation, have only seen a few Disney movies since Beauty and the Beast....on, wait, I saw Monsters Inc...Lion King...is Up a Disney film? Geez, I'm getting old...although last night Rosie did say now that we have reached 65 we have until at least 82!!! :woohoo:

Yes Up is all Disney! And I have to agree......the older I get, the older OLD gets...... :thumbsup2

Love all the photos, Marv! :goodvibes

What's this about no more rope drop?! Longer lines at the gates? :faint:
Thanks Christine, and actually I hear it makes things easier that people are able to walk through the turnstiles and just keep strolling into the parks. I doubt any more people are showing up at the turnstiles than would have already been there.

Just show me the photo zone and I will oblige !!Of course I still nedd an updated MarELOUS pix!!! Any body have one ??????
I think I have a few Rosie. :goodvibes

And I find it hard to believe that Rosie wouldn't shy away from an embarrassing picture. Getting bolder with age I guess............ :rotfl:

0 Judy's Oh wrong Update !!!:rotfl2: Wow 2 updates in a month :faint::rotfl2:
What the heck.......one point for Rosie!!! After all, if Glenn can give them out for non-updates on his TR, earning one on other people's TRs is just a step away!!! :sad2:

I never knew that the characters have "Hollywood" outfits at DHS. The chipmunks look cute - I think I need to put this on the list for the next trip: look at the characters at DHS!

I got lucky on that one I think. I have seen pictures of characters in area specific outfits, but seldom seen it in person! :confused3

I think that was a good call to head back to the resort to relax. After all that's the beauty of owning DVC: to know that the parks will be there again on the next visit! I guess Pat would agree with me here! :goodvibes

I hope you have some OKW pool pictures coming up next! I am kind of falling more and more for OKW and definitely can see a stay there in my future... But then I think the only DVC resort I would rule out at the moment is SSR (even though I can see some positives about that as well) - and I am not sure that I would really want to stay at the new GF DVC (is that going to be GFV? Or VGF?), just not my style...
Well I didn't, but for one of my two favorite Germans..........

Be still my heart....I do so love Chip n Dale.
Oh Christine, I never knew.............

:rotfl2:

Always a winner of an idea in my book!
Have to totally agree!!! :goodvibes

The heat sure feels like that...

::yes::

:faint: Now I am struggling to keep up with you too?

Not so hard to believe........ :)

August= lots of pool time :thumbsup2

:beach:

I really need to slow down and take in those Streetmosphere skits.

Slow can be good at times.......... :thumbsup2

Looking forward to the DVC thing. I tried to go to one but they were cancelling them, but I did get the swag...
As long as you don't leave empty handed....... :rolleyes2

another update from Marv :rolleyes1 love the fun photos of the boys....cool you got to see some of the extra performers in the street, we've missed most of them through the years :goodvibes hope you enjoyed your pool time!
Actually, with it being hot for so long jumping in the pool wasn't much of a relief from the heat. :rolleyes2

good update marv, have never seen that card trick guy out there before, in fact we never pay much attention to the street performers on the roads there, will have to look more next trip.

They are usually quite entertaining!

hey i decided that he gets enough negative from everyone else:rolleyes1 that i would be positive and tell him that it was his best update of the year so far without the obviouse his only reply of the year.:goodvibes

Oh, so you were playing with me haircut boy??? :(

So tell the Rules committee I get the point:snooty::rotfl2:

Nah, Glenn hands out enough bogus points already to try and thwart my efforts at being diligent (and try to keep everyone happy so they don't quit reading).......... :sad2: I think for his next TR instead of participating in the "Where's Judy-do" contest I will volunteer to be the Rules Committee, listen to the appeals, and provide the unbiased rulings on who gets a point. I'm guessing you won't have a prayer of winning that one either Rosie........... :rotfl:

Chapter 16 - DVC Party and Sneak Peek at Aulani

I had headed back to OKW to take a break from the heat, and head out to the pool. My bus karma was not so good and it took a while to catch a bus back to the resort. By the time I relaxed a little in the room to cool off and got ready to go, everyone else had made it back to join me. The boys opted for the game room instead of the pool. I didn't take any pictures this trip of the pool area, but at the request of my good friend Magdalene (Flossbolna) who was wanting to see how that area looks, I went back and found some from a previous trip that I decided to post here just for her.

Drew testing out the HM (well, not really so hidden) pool slide. Looking back, he sure has grown since then.

This picture was taken from over beside the slide area, looking back towards the shallow side of the pool.

The event staff at the OKW pool works really hard to keep the party atmosphere going. It is a lot of fun for everyone, without really being overly intrusive to those who don't want to participate. If you look closely, you can see Drew enjoying the dance party.

I know I have some more pictures of the lighthouse and sauna somewhere, but apparently they aren't uploaded to Photobucket or they didn't come out good. I guess next time I am there I need to get some more pictures of the other areas around the pool. I always feel a little intrusive taking pictures around the pool. It is funny that some of the female posters on the DIS can snap lots of pool pics and nobody pays them any attention, but when a guy does it people look at you funny and wonder what you are up to.........

We left the pool area in time to get cleaned up and ready to go to our next planned activity. I had signed us up for a DVC party/sales event that included a tour of the new model for the Aulani resort in Hawai'i. I thought it would be a lot of fun to see it plus it was something to do indoors during the hottest part of the day and we would get some free food out of it! We took the short drive over to Saratoga Springs where the DVC offices are located and got ready for the "show."

After the big promotion for people to buy into DVC Aulani (actually any resort that was available), or add on at a special party rate they brought in Mickey and Goofy for those who wanted pictures with them. Never one to pass up a short wait for a character meet, we joined in.

After the meet and greet, we were put in a group with a DVC salesperson who took us to the Aulani model, where I managed to get some pictures.

For some reason I always like the artist's rendering of your potential view from the balcony of your room when they do these models. Some people probably consider them cheesy, but I think they add to letting you get a better feel for what the resort will be like.

Aulani looks like a really nice resort, and maybe someday a trip to Hawai'i to stay there may be in order, but I definitely couldn't see owning there. It might be an option for those living on the West Coast, since I think Hawai'i is a favorite destination for people who live there and the flights aren't nearly as much, but for those of us on the East Coast.......probably not so much. We did meet with a Sales Rep after the tour, and got the information (plus our free ice cream they always provide) and our DVC ride passes. It was very tempting to think about, but cooler heads prevailed and we decided not to get caught up in the heat of the moment and make any purchases. One thing I do appreciate about DVC is they are never a high pressure sales pitch like most timeshares, so the only pressure you feel is always self generated on the internal side. As things have turned out, with the prices on the secondary market right now being so low with the economy, that was a really good decision financially!

After the party there really wasn't anywhere we wanted to go since we were late into our trip, so a break from all the action to relax at the resort seemed like a wise idea. It was going to be an earlier morning for all of us the next day (our final full day) as we would be heading out for our ADR at.................

Coming up Chapter 17 - Kona Café Breakfast

Glenn uses that cloaking device that he only gave me the secret code to get into. How do you think I get first so often........... ;)

Sorry about the pics, they are fixed now. I knew there was a problem but I wanted to make sure I got that top post of the page in before somebody commented, not that you are known for messing that up or anything. :lmao:

I have had issues trying to work around the problems with the new PB and the way I had to get the pictures loaded into my update, it added an extra space I missed. :headache: After I posted I went in and edited so they have the correct link now. :goodvibes

I never thought about this before, but I bet you are correct. I sling my camera everywhere and no one bats an eye.

Cute pictures!

As cool as Aulani looks, being an East Coaster would make it very unlikely that I would ever purchase there. But I really would like to visit it one of these years!

wow another update :faint: you musn't be busy at work this week!

the pool looks very cool! love the "sandcastle" nice you got to go check out the model! we hope to stay there someday! Hawaii for us is a 6 hour flight, same as getting to WDW!
fun you got a photo with Mickey and Goofy together and free ice cream to boot!

what free ice cream...what i have missed all these years not taking the tour.

i thought you usually got a disney gift card as well? is that not the case or just special occasions for that?

It sure is a bear of a flight. Still...I can't wait to see it for myself!:cool1:

Coming up Chapter 17 - Kona Café Breakfast

Another good choice!:thumbsup2

I love the fact that your TR has gotten a new life!!!

And I love it even more that you actually included old pictures for me!! That sandcastle slide looks very cool! I am now considering to maybe make use of the pool hopping privileges and hop to the OKW pool - could combine it with lunch at Olivias... :scratchin Somehow I am afraid that even if I don't run around the parks all the time, I will be so busy trying to do all the other stuff that I never had time for! :lmao:

I like the pictures of the Aulani model, they do look like very nice rooms! I am hoping to make it to Hawaii in the next few years. It has been on my wish list for so long, but it is just so so far away from here!

The family picture with the characters is nice - and it is amazing to see how tall Drew is compared to those pool pictures! I am sure he has grown even more since! I think it is really nice to see my DIS friends' kids grow up over the years by their trip reports. :goodvibes

Aminute earlier and I wood have upset your top of the page too:rotfl2::rotfl2:Anywho I looked at the misssing pix and they are great!!!

I always feel a little intrusive taking pictures around the pool. It is funny that some of the female posters on the DIS can snap lots of pool pics and nobody pays them any attention, but when a guy does it people look at you funny and wonder what you are up to.........

Oh yes. You are so right. A guy, especially if he is by himself will get a lot of attention from our staff versus one with small children. Sad to lump all guys in that catagory but a few bad apples......

I think it is pretty cool too. Gives it a whole different feel.

I never thought about this before, but I bet you are correct. I sling my camera everywhere and no one bats an eye.

::yes::

I can't handle all these updates...my heart is beating too fast. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Love the family photo at the DVC showing; Aulani looks lovely. If I weren't so against flying long distances, I'd really consider a trip there.

Your last day already? Really? I don't know how you remember that far back. But love that you are going to one of our favorite places...Kona.

I never thought about this before, but I bet you are correct. I sling my camera everywhere and no one bats an eye.

I guess I need to get a really good zoom lens so I can take the pictures from much further away and hopefully nobody would be paying attention..........but then, that might make it even more suspicious!!! :confused3 :rotfl2:

Cute pictures!

As cool as Aulani looks, being an East Coaster would make it very unlikely that I would ever purchase there. But I really would like to visit it one of these years!
A great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to "live" there!!! :rolleyes2

Maybe combine a trip to Aulani after a trip to DL, then it would be a six hour flight for me too......... :rotfl2:

what free ice cream...what i have missed all these years not taking the tour.

i thought you usually got a disney gift card as well? is that not the case or just special occasions for that?
Actually, you are correct! I forgot we got a $50 gift card to use at AMC movie theaters. As for the ice cream, if you ever go to the main DVC offices at SSR and meet with a representative/take a tour of the models they have their own ice cream shop you get to enjoy. It is rather basic, but you can make your own sundae! :cool1:

:lmao: It's funny because it's true!

Yes.........and no!!! ;)

It sure is a bear of a flight. Still...I can't wait to see it for myself!:cool1:

True dat!

Another good choice!:thumbsup2

I love the fact that your TR has gotten a new life!!!

Trying to get this part finished up so I can move on to the October trip where I got to meet a couple of very nice German sisters! I have lots of embarrassing pictures I can post then....... :p

Did you have any doubt I would post pictures for you after you asked??? :)

Olivia's is a great choice!

Drew has grown quite a bit more just in the past few months! He hardly looks like the same person anymore!

Aminute earlier and I wood have upset your top of the page too:rotfl2:Anywho I looked at the misssing pix and they are great!!!
Thanks Rosie! Yes, it was a close call on the top of the page thingy!!! :rotfl:

Oh yes. You are so right. A guy, especially if he is by himself will get a lot of attention from our staff versus one with small children. Sad to lump all guys in that catagory but a few bad apples......

The old double standard........ :guilty:

I think it is pretty cool too. Gives it a whole different feel.

::yes::

I can't handle all these updates...my heart is beating too fast. :lmao:

Danged if I do......danged if I don't!!! :sad1:

Remembering is really tough until something triggers it! Even Dan seemed to know what was going on better than I did......... :rotfl:
