Rides for larger guests/Plus Sizes [Merged Threads]

We will be going to Disney in May 09 and my sister in law is renting a scooter. She has gone to other theme parks in the past and was disappointed after trying to ride a ride only to be asked to get off because she was to big. She is about 5'7 and 350 lbs. Is there rides that she should avoid? What would be recommend?

Hi and to disABILITIES!

Two suggestions. If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including where people rent ECVs. If she rents from off-site make sure they are aware of her size and weight so they will be able to provide her with the correct size ECV. If she rents from Disney the ECVs they use have a capacity of about 500 pounds. However, be sure to look at Post #2 in the FAQ.

Weight and height are not the prime factor on ride but body shape is. At a turnstile a lady I was with would have to lift her belly to get through were as the heavy me was able so squeeze through. My neighbor was tall and barrel chested but now way was he fat yet he could not ride many rides with drop down chest protectors like on the Maliboomer at DLR.

On my trip to San Antonio I had no problem with seat belts until I had a food reaction and gained a dress size or more. It depnds on where the how wide the hips are or how deep the chest is. I am 5'4 and up to 300 pounds with few problems on any ride in WDW or DLR. Just letting you know that it is shape not weight that matters.

Your friend will find lots of rides and many restaurants have chairs or booth with tables that can be moved for comfort.

Your friend should have no problem riding anything. I am 5'5 and probably weigh more than 350 and the only trouble I have had is some of the turnstiles, but the CM will let you through the chained area with no problem. DH and I didn't fit comfortably on Dumbo in the same car, but alone I would have been fine. Barnstormer was the same as Dumbo, I did okay with 10 year old cousin, until she decided she didn't want to ride, so I rode with Dh and it was tight, but not uncomfortable. The tea cups can be a bit tight, but no longer than you are on it, there will be no problem.

ALWAYS pull seat belts out before sitting down, because they are long enough. When Dh and I rode Dumbo, we had to use an extension, but if I had ridden alone, I probably wouldn't have needed it.

I don't go to other parks because of worries like this, but have never had a problem at WDW, It's my favorite place.

Hello, I am a larger guy and was also nervous about my trip to Disney (May 2007) but I was able to get on all the rides. There is a book out there that I recommend (Passporter's All Ears) it covers all disabilities including larger people. The books gives useful details, even where to sit, if you are a larger guest.

Be prepared for a different type of theme park, because Disney is truely for everyone!

question is, anyone who is plus size, like...300 lbs, have trouble on any of the rides? I dont want my MIL and FIL to be embarrased when they cant ride. Let me know please!

Also AllEars.net has a section called WDW at Large. It even has articles written by overweight people and their experiences on the rides. If they are concerned at any location, the CM will be descreet if you ask them and let you know if they think your relatives will be able to ride. The #1 tip I have read is to pull the seat belt all the way out before sitting down, it makes it so much easier that way.

I like to think of myself as "pooh sized" . Anyway, I'm running about 275. There isn't a single ride I can't go on, although a couple of small openings in ride cars and turnstiles can require a healthy sense of humor. When I'd occasionally get a little stuck, I'd just laugh and push through. Have a great time w/ your inlaws, I appreciate that you care so much about their experience and would research this for them. You're a good egg.

I'm over 300lbs and can ride everthing I want to with little trouble. Sometimes, DH and I can't sit on the same row, but that isn't a problem. This is the very reason we go to WDW, because I can ride everyting without embarrassment. We are getting ready to go on our 8th trip in 3.5 years.

My wife and I are on the larger side, and we have yet to have a problem on any ride in WDW over the years. Yes, we may not be able to sit next to each other, or it may be somewhat more difficult to manuever in and out of the ride, but neither of us have ever been made to feel embarrased--like we have been on many occassion at Universal.

I am 300+ and had no trouble on any of the rides at all. I am also disabled and used a scooter, and was treated like royalty. It was such a pleasure to go and not worry about being embarrassed like I have been at other places.

Ride 'em all, there will be no problem! I speak from personal experience as a very large person, bigger than the one you are traveling with. Enjoy!

I had no problems. I agree that height/weight is not generally as much a problem as body type. The only place I was uncomfortable with was eating at Sci Fi. The car was a tight fit and I was not comfortable at all. I did not ask to be reseated since my kids enjoyed the car. Have a great time.

I had a problem on a rollor coaster at universal studios I fit the hight requirment however I did not feel save i felt as though I was sliping through the harnes so I was wondering were I can get help to fit on rides better

Several of the attractions have a ride vehicle outside the queue for people who want to make sure they can fit. Off the top of my head, though, I can't think of which ones.
