I am travelling with my family of 5 (youngest daughter is 3 and will be too small for rides like Splash). When going to a ride that has rider switch, does the waiting parent need a FP+? For example, can I schedule a FP for myself and 2 of my children for Splash Mountain and then my wife can take them on again with the rider switch ticket while I wait with my 3 year old (therefore not wasting a FP+ for my wife since she would be using the return ticket and not the band).

No. The waiting parent only needs to rider switch pass to access the FP+ queue. :thumbsup2

Not true. When I was there at the end of June, if you wanted to get a Rider Switch pass when using the FP line they were making EVERYONE in the party scan their Magic Bands PRIOR to issuing the Rider Switch. They were also paying closer attention to who was entering the line and who was being given a Rider Switch ticket, making sure that someone was entering the line at that particular moment and that someone else was really being left behind with a child that was really too small to ride.

The purpose of the rider switch pass is to allow the waiting parent or family member access to the FP+ queue after the first parent rides. The initial parent needs a FP+ to access the queue the first time around, or will need to ride stand-by if s/he doesn't have a FP+ scheduled.

I have read on these boards that rides like 7dmt require all parties to have fp+ booked but other rides don't. I just wish it was consistent. Also not sure what the official wording is either. I do think it would be nice if the adult receiving the pass didn't have to have fp+. That way group A could have FPs for 7dmt and group B (the waiting group) could have FPs for Winnie the pooh.
