Anyone have recent experience with rider switch/swap? Did everyone have a fastpass? How many can ride with the second group? For the rides that require the little ones to stay in line, did your little ones go nuts either with fear or with wanting to get on the ride?

Good question I would like to know too since we will have a 1 year old and will probably be doing alot of rider switch.

We want in January and there was never a time out little one had to wait in line with us. You might be referring to some attractions that require you to carry a lanyard through part of the que before receiving the paper rider swap ticket.
We had two adults, two older children who could ride everything, and one little one. I would often schedule one adult and one older child for a ride with fastpass and have them acquire the rider swap. That way, the other older child and myself (and the first older child rider if they wanted) could ride again. This was only helpful for rides where the little one couldn't ride and wasn't a tiered ride. It worked for splash and BTMRR.

We used rider swap and FP+ and it worked out great for us. I made FP's for all the thrill rides for my DH and then DD and I got FP's for all the princess M&G's and such. By the time we were done DH just gave us the return ticket which is good for up to 4 riders and expires in 30 days. So we could come back and ride it whenever we wanted on our trip.

Word of caution--make sure you are all together when you go up to the ride to request a RS ticket. Some CM's want to actually SEE your little ones. We ran into some trouble with that on the beginning of our trip.

We used Rider swap with FP+ for Everest. We all walked up to the CM's and asked for the Rider Switch. Then DS and DH went through the FP+ line. When they came off DS and I used the Rider Swap to go through the FP+ line. DS and DH had the FP+ for Everest.

I do not know for sure, but I believe only 3 people can ride on the Rider Switch pass.

We also used Rider Switch for Soarin' but didn't use FP+ as we did it at RopeDrop. Once again all 4 of us went up to the CM's and asked for the Rider Switch pass. DH and DS went on Soarin' on standby. Then DS and I went on Soarin' in the FP+ line. This time DD did get quite bored because Soarin' took so long. We got her a candybar for a snack at 9:30am. HA HA it's vacation right?!

You can go back and use the Rider switch later but in the case of Soarin' we just wanted to move onto a different building so we didn't. And Everest we were too busy looking around at people and having fun we didn't use it then either.

Just got back 2 weeks ago. had no problems with rider swap. We are 2 adults, 3 kids.. 13,10 and 2. I would make a fast pass reservation for my husband and one child for one ride and then I would ride that same ride with my 2 children with the rider swap pass. I made anfastpass reservation for me and the other child and then my husband rode with both children using the rider swap pass. so split up your FP. You do not all need FP for the same ride if you are doing rider swap. The only two rides we had a problem with rider swap was the Tomorrowland speedway where the CM said my 2 year old was tall enough even though she was terrified of the noise and Goofy Barnstormer where she barely was tall enough. She gave me a rider swap anyway because she could tell I was uncomfortable in letting her ride even though she just made the height. At soarin the ride in downstairs in a building and there are no strollers allowed in the building. 9am was way too early to allow her out of the stroller. I spoke with a CM outside and she said to just tell them inside. I told the CM inside and although a little hesitant she believed me and gave me the rider swap. Just a heads up you might have to take the baby out of stroller to show them at that ride. Some rides give the person riding a lanyard to trade for a rider swap before they board the ride. We never had to have the baby wait in a line. In fact we were in the FP line that extended outside at I think splash with the stroller and a CM came running up to us and gave us the rider swap so we could exit the line.
So to answer your question you do not all need FP. Only the person or people riding the first time to get the swap.
Have fun!
