Rider switch for kid in cast?

Just curious, haven’t used rider swap in AGES! 11-1/2 yr old is in an arm cast, and cannot ride Aerosmith coaster for sure, maybe not Everest (though - is everest same as BTMR?? Lots of turning but not especially “rough?). I would want to ride everest, for instance BEFORE I decide if son can ride in his cast.

i fully expect to wait in line like everyone else, just hoping if hubby sits with son while I ride with daughter, that if we do rider switch, hubby then can ride.

i know 11-1/2 is old enough to sit by himself, but if a line is long- like some reports of 45+ minutes, if we could do rider swap with him as he is visibly injured, that’d be preferable to having him stand in a hot line uncomfy in his cast then has to exit because he can’t ride. You should be able to. According to the language of Disney's website, rider switch can be used for a child who is too small or for a guest who does not wish to ride. When we went a few years ago, our party included a child who was tall enough to ride, but sometimes too timid to try. We had no problem getting RS with the exception of Space Mountain, where the CM would not budge and got rather curt with us when I tried to argue the official language allows for a child who doesn't want to ride. So, YMMV, but it's most likely that there's no problem.

What Is Rider Switch and How Does It Work?
If Guests in your party can’t or don’t want to board an attraction, you don’t have to miss out!
If a child does not meet the height requirement or a Guest does not wish to board a particular attraction, no problem! With Rider Switch, one adult can wait with the non-rider (or riders) while the rest of the party enjoys the attraction. When the other adult returns, they can supervise the non-riding Guests, and the waiting adult can board the attraction without having to wait in the regular line again!

We just got back and our 13 year old daughter didn't ride Space Mountain or Big Thunder. We just waited in line and when we got to board the ride we told the cast member she wasn't riding and they had her walk through to a waiting area. For Space Mountain it was inside where you end the ride and disembark. For Big Thunder it was outside on our way out. Since she's 13 we felt safe leaving her for a few minutes. This wouldn't work with younger children and you'd have to do the official Rider Switch. You'll have to decide if he can wait for you on his own or not.

Just mho I’m in a cast too and probably wouldn’t do Everest, and it’s my favorite ride!

A couple of years ago our DGS age 9 didn’t want to ride RnR. Ha also wasn’t comfortable waiting by himself while we rode. He went through the line with us and when we got to the boarding area, he and DS went through a door there and met us at the unload area. Then DS boarded and rode by himself.

What others have said, have him go through the line and then he can take the "chicken exit". There is always a way to back out of going on a ride.

Thanks! If the ride line is out in the sun, we'll ask if we can just get the pass ... he may be super uncomfy with the cast on with the heat - why we were thinking about the switch - especially if he's not going to ride - we don't want him to be miserable so we can enjoy a ride.
