How does parent/child swap work and also with FP?

You get a FP then you all go to the CM let them know that the other is staying behind with child/ren the CM gives first rider a rider swap pass which allows second rider to use FP lane. If you have kids riding the first time get FP for them too.

Not for all rides rider swap is for rides with height requirements. That the child may not be able to or want to ride.

You'll have to do some research as to what rides are eligible in each park. Up to 3 people get to ride with a rider swap pass. For example, my Dh and 2 of my ds's went on space with their FP, when they were done I went on with the same 2 kids. I can't remember if there is a time restriction with intro not. It's a great way for the kids to go back to back on the same ride.

Just wanted to note that if a child meets the height requirement, but doesn't want to ride, they're not eligible for rider swap. We ran into that last week when my DS (7) didn't want to ride Splash Mountain (sadly, he doesn't like flumes...even amazing ones ). We tried to do a rider swap, but because he's tall enough to ride it wasn't allowed. The CM was very nice about it, and we understood...luckily we had a second day planned in MK, and I was able to ride then.

We ran into that on our last trip. I do not like that policy. My youngest was 3 years old and barely 40" but I was not allowed to do rider swap at the 40" rides. They went as far as making me measure him to prove he was under 40" so I couldn't do rider swap!! I wish they made the policy allowed for any child too young to sit by him/herself and wait.

Only one rider swap card is needed if doing rider swap. If doing fast pass, then every one in the group going on the ride must have a fast pass. (I'm not sure how fast pass plus works though, so just going on regular fast pass).

Maybe it has changed since I last used it (end of September) but here is how it worked for us....

Whole family approaches the line. We show DS to the CM and she gives us a rider swap pass. DH (and whoever else is riding) wait in the regular line and DS and I wait outside. When they are done DH waits with DS and I use the rider swap pass in the fast pass line. (I think the rider swap is good for 3 guests)


That's it! Super easy!

No not everyone in the group needs a FP or FP+. Only the ones riding first so they can use the FP lane. The 2nd group will then use the rider swap pass.

So right now my DH and two DDs have FP+ for Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The plan was for me to wait with the little one. If I wanted to ride too with my two DDs, our group would get the to rider swap passes for three, hold onto them during the ride, and then we'd all get back into the FP line while my DH waits with the 3 year old. Is that how it works? And the CMs won't give me a hard time not for having a FP+ too? Love to make sure I'm thinking of this correctly.

I get so nervous on rides so I'm not sure if I love or hate this option, but maybe I will push myself to try them. I know the kids would love it if I went too.

I hate to say it, but the disney website is full of errors - this is one of them. The CM was correct.

We have used rider swap for all of our visits because of small children. It was the same everytime: we walked up as a group, the child who was too small to ride was presented to the CM and then the CM gave us a ticket. The child has had to be too small to ride everytime.

With the abuse of the disability system can you imagine the mess if they just gave a fast pass everytime someone in a party didnt feel like riding?

The CM who has the rider swap tickets is the one next to the measuring stick and usually near the fast pass entrance.

After getting the swap ticket the members of the party who are tall enough to ride (and willing) enter the regular line (or fast pass if you pulled those tickets from the fast pass podiums earlier, ride the ride and then come out, a member of the party stays with the too small child and the rest (up to 3, or more if anybody pulled fast passes earlier in the day for this time of day) enter the fast pass line to ride the ride

Hmmm I'm surprised to hear this about rider swap not being allowed if a child can ride it. A year ago my husband and I went with my daughter to Dinosaur at AK. She said she wanted to go, and was just at 40 inches. She freaked out when it was time to board. I was going to just let my husband go since I had been on a previous trip, and forget about going,. But a CM gave me a FP so I could do a rider swap.

And no I don't think there should be rider swaps for teenagers. But honestly Disney costs a lot of money. And yes my daughter is tall enough for TOT, Dinosaur, and a few others. But she is afraid. She's 5.5. I would be upset if I couldn't do a rider swap, and personally I'd complain to guest relations and/or a manager if not allowed. If a child doesn't want to go, and the child is not old enough to stay along then a rider swap should be allowed.

Yep you got it. The rider swap is your FP they don't care if you use the FP option for the first riders or not.

Technically, riderswap is only for kids under the height restriction, but CMs will often give riderswitch tickets in such an instance ie small child is scared to ride.
