Rider Swap/Waiting in Line

We are traveling in July with a will-be 20 month old. I do understand how the rider swap works, but I have a question about those rides that either my husband or myself don't necessarily want to ride. Will we all be able to wait in line and then just skip out at the last minute? I know that waiting in line stinks, but also not having anything to do with baby at Hollywood Studios while the others are in line stinks too. I've done that before... I think that sometimes I'd rather just wait in line and have someone to talk to. ;)

If the little one is not tall enough, he will not be able to enter the line.

I'm not sure if I understand your question, but you get the RS pass at the beginning of the line - before anyone even enters. You just tell the CMs that you want a RS pass and whoever is riding goes through the line and the adult with the kid can go ride another ride, get a snack, etc. I'm not sure they would allow a 20-month old into any of the queues for rides he isn't tall enough for.

will not be allowed in lines with height requirement that 20 month does not meet just as others have said. so no you will not be able to wait together in line and skip out at "chicken exit". not what you are wanting to hear

Adding onto the question....

What do you recommend mom and baby/toddler/short kiddo do while the rest of the group rides...? Especially at a park like HS...?

Younger DS and I took magic shots with a photo pass photographer (outside of star tours) we also got treats (cotton candy) and did Disney junior show. I did feel bad for my younger son at HS. There was not as much for him to do.

I like the photo idea :) I will be going with the DH and a 3,5,and 7 year old...and I have been worried about how to pass time with the little one during rides and avoid meltdowns.

Get a snack, visit a playground, ride a different attraction...there are tons of things for toddlers and small children in each park.

We found play areas near a lot of rides. Hollywood Studios has the honey I shrunk the kids playground. My kids also had fun just running around outside the exit to tower of terror! We also got frozen treats and shopped while waiting. We used fast pass to minimize the waits and the amount of time the kids needed to be distracted as well.

We had a snack, found a playground area, looked at toys in stores, took pictures, rode rides they could (harder to do in HS).

Our favorite area at HS was the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground.

If your younger ones are into characters, there are a lot of good ones in HS. Sorcerer Mickey & Minnie both meet in the Art of Animation building, Jake & Sofia from Disney Jr, Woody & Buzz near TSMM (although lines for them can get long), Mike & Sulley from Monsters Inc near the Backlot, Phineas & Ferb, Lightning & Mater from Cars. Lots of friends for little ones to meet.

I would agree with those that posted about the playground and characters. I know my youngest loved meeting the army man from Toy Story, he was just pacing up and down in front of TSM. Also, there is a nice fountain by the Muppets show. I would say if part of your party does not want to do shows then maybe you could do that? My youngest and I went to the Beauty and the Beast show and he really enjoyed it.
Have fun!

Bummer! I was really hoping we could use the "chicken exit"! Oh well. I guess we will find something to do. At some point, I want to ride RnR, but will have to choose TSM instead for Fast Pass selections. Hopefully I'll be able to work it all out without making my DH wait too long with the ones who can't/don't want to ride. I haven't been able to ride that or ToT since '06, and I've been back several times since then!

Characterpaloza happens near 2 out of the 3 rides (Tower of Terror and Rocken Roll Coaster) that have height limits. The Beauty and the Beast show is also near those two rides. The other ride with a height limit is Star Tours - that's fairly close to the Muppet theatre.
