Has anyone done this? I'm wondering if it's only 1 adult at a time or if you can do 2. Sounds like a great program though!

I'm really not sure exactly what you're asking, but here's a brief explanation of how it works...

- Family approaches the CM at the ride entrance and asks for a Rider Switch pass.
- One adult waits with the too short child/baby while everyone else in the group rides (either via the regular standby line or fast pass if you have them)
- After they are done, the waiting adult and up to two others can ride using the Rider Switch Pass via the FP entrance (Ticket is good for up to 3 people total)

Notes:
- The waiting adult and child do not have to stay near the ride. You can use this time to get a snack, do another attraction, etc.
- You do not have to ride immediately after the first part of your group. The RS pass is good for the rest of the day, so you can return later to use it if that is more convenient for you.

So, if 2 people ride, and one waits, one of the people who rides can go on the ride again with the person who waited?

Why did they not have this at Six Flags when I was a teenager? :lmao:

As long as you are waiting with a child who can not ride due to a height restriction = yes.

Can you combine fast passes with rider swap? And can 2 people sit out, for example could my husband and I ride while my ILs sat with the kids and then the 2 of them ride? Thanks!

Yes, on both counts! We used to get, for example, 2 FP for Splash Mtn and 2 for Thunder Mtn (with 4 tickets, total). Then, we'd get a RSP, 2 of us would ride with the FP and later the other parent and the older child would ride using the RSP. Repeat at other attraction. It helped cut down on the down-time the too-short child had to endure.

As long as you present the too-short child to the CM, you can split up any way you want to. When traveling in a big group (we once did Disney with a group of 14, 2 of whom were under-height), we would split up so that several of us waited with the youngest kids and then traded off, which allowed the parents of the kids to actually get to experience attractions together - a rarity when you have an under-height child!

IME using FP with RS can be hit or miss- some some CM's will insist that every member of the party (except the non rider) have a FP and then they will trade the RSP for the FP of the person staying behind with the non rider.

I have heard of that a few times here on the DIS, but it never happened to us. We always approached the CM at the stand-by line to get the RSP, not the FP line. Then, we always moved away from the line entrances to park the stroller and sort out who was riding, who was staying and where they were going to be. Then, those riding would go back to the attraction and enter via the FP line if we had FP.

Last time we went to WDW, we either didn't have a good understanding of rider swap, or we ran into cast members who didn't fully understand it. So let me give a scenario to see if I get it now.

Our next trip will be me, dh, a 42" kid, and a 36" kid. Here's a scenario. We get 2 Fastpasses for Soarin' with my ticket and dh's ticket. We simultaneously get 2 Fastpasses for Test Track with the girls' tickets. Fastpass return time for both rides is 10-10:30. At 10, we go to Soarin'. Go to the regular line cast member and say we want a rider swap. They see that YDD is too short, so they give us the rider swap pass. We go get the stroller situated. Dh and ODD use the 2 Fastpasses to ride Soarin' while I wait with YDD.

When they're done, we head over to Test Track. Again, we approach the cast member at the regular line and say we want a rider swap. They give us the pass, we get the stroller situated. I ride Test Track with ODD, using the 2 Fastpasses. When we're done, we now have a rider swap pass for both Soarin' and Test Track. We can use them at any time during the day. And since each rider swap is good for up to 3 people, ODD could ride each of them a second time.

Is that right?

Can you use the rider swap if the child meets the height requirements but just doesn't want to go on the ride?

Yes, this should work.

Of course, as mentioned, there have been a few people who were asked for FPs for every member of the party but this seems to be rare. We have done what you describe many times (usually ToT and RnRollercoaster since they're right next to each other) and never had an issue with only having two FPs.

Can you use the rider swap if the child meets the height requirements but just doesn't want to go on the ride?

No, they will only give you a Rider Switch pass if you have a child who does not meet the height requirement.

However, if you have a "big enough" child who is too scared to ride you can talk to the CM and they can help you figure something out. (I believe usually in this case the child will go through the queue with the rest of the party. With RS, the short child and adult do not ever enter the line)

Yes, with the one small exception that you can't take a stroller into The Land, so you won't need to get your stroller situated after getting your RSP. :thumbsup2 We generally go find a table in the Sunshine Seasons area to rest and maybe have a snack while the first group is riding.

And in case your trip is coming up soon, I also wanted to be sure you knew that Test Track is closed for renovation and will be closed through November.

Rider Switch Passes are for families that have an under-height child. However, if your child just doesn't want to ride, you can ask the CM if there are any other options. You can always just get FP for everyone in the group and trade off using them, letting one person ride twice with the extra FP (for the ticket of the person who doesn't want to ride). That is probably the best option.
