Rider Swap... How many FP do I need?

I don't know why this is confusing me.... maybe because I've never actually used rider swap...

My son loves 7DMT, but my daughter refuses to ride. If we book 4 FP, can we do rider swap so that both me and my husband have a chance to ride with my son?

If not, would we just book all 4 of us for the FP and then just switch our bands and get in line again so the other one would ride with my son?

Thanks for the help!

You will only be able to use Rider Swap if your daughter is too short and doesn't meet the height restrictions.

If she is tall enough, everyone who wants to ride will need a FP. A Rider Swap pass will not be given to you. Just book FPs for all 4 and switch the MB for the second ride.

Thanks! We usually just pick one of us to go with him, but he wants us both to go this time. I'll just book FP for the 4 of us and switch bands. That's probably why we don't use rider swap - I don't understand it - LOL!!!!!

Here's how rider switch works- Anyone who rides first will need a FP+. They will give you a switch pass for the others who are staying with the child- it's good for up to 3 people. It will have an expiration date. Ours have always been until the end of the month we were visiting. Others have reported various lengths of time, but it's good for at least a few days.

There seems to be great debate on this site as to whether or not you can take advantage of the rider switch option with a too tall child. We have done it with no problem. The official website says you can. Until they change the policy they post, I consider it the official policy.

...either because they do not meet the height requirement or simply do not wish to ride.

I hope you don't mind me hijacking with a question, but what if the child is too short to ride? In my fam, we have a 7 yr old and a 4 year old. If both adults want to ride with the 7 yr old, do we need 3 FP? Or can we get away with 2 (one adult and the 7 yr old, and the 2nd adult uses a swap)?

I feel your pain, I find Rider swap very confusing!!

You only need fp+'s for those riding first. The others ( up to 3) use the switch pass.

So it's not about the height requirements? She's tall enough, but she's only 5 and she's scared. I mean, cries when we bring it up scared (she's been on Barnstormer and loves HM).

I CAN just do 2 FP for me and him and then my husband can switch and ride with him while I promise my DD over and over that were just waiting and I'm not forcing her to ride?!?!

If I'm being honest, this really didn't clear it up for me yet!

Cast members do not read the website for their training, unfortunately what the site says and what they are trained to do don't seem to agree. So you may or maynot get a cast member let you use rider switch with a child tall enough. You won't know until you try but be prepared for either

Yes, if they follow policy you can do that. Fp for you and your son and then your husband and son can ride. BUT if they decide not to follow it you may have trouble getting the swap pass.

Yes, you should be able to. I always suggest if a CM balks at issuing you one, ask for a supervisor. I don't care how CM's are trained nor should I be expected to know. I hold Disney to what they post on their website. If it's inaccurate, that's their problem, not mine. I had the link from the website available but had no problems and never had to press the issue.
