Why does Universal have so many ride warnings? Just about every ride I've looked at has the standard warning about pregnancy, heart trouble, back and neck trouble. This is even things like Jaws, Back to the Future and all that.

Are all these rides really that bad?

Yep- For the health of the guests and the overkill or warnings is to cover themselves in the event of a lawsuit. I work in the insurance claims industry and handled some amusement accounts on the Jersey shore many moons ago. We would conduct sight inspections and tell them to post more warnings. A plaintiff attorney never argues to a jury that there were too many warnings - only inadequate # of warnings of the quality of the warnings.

To put it simply...it's called "CYA".

It's to cover anything the could possible go wrong to avoid a lawsuit. They would tell the person "hey we had proper warning and signage, yet you still chose to ride." You'll notice at every possible way to enter a ride (via regular, express or singles line) you'll see a sign.

Many moons ago I handled a claim for the manufacturer of a hand push lawn mower. The purchaser and his friend got drunk one afternoon and decided to try to trim the hedges with the lawnmower. They both sued for failure to warn when they lost the fingers and part of their hands from lifting up the lawnmower to cut the hedges. Besides the obviously logical danger of their stunt and their intoxication, the company also had numerous warnings about the dangers of the blades, etc., however, the theory of liability was that there was no specific warning not to use the "lawn" mower to cut hedges. The Judge would not dismiss the case so the issue was going to be decided by a jury in one of the country's biggest "Judicial Hellholes" where the juries are very liberal, regardless of facts. We had maybe a 5% chance of winning so we ended up paying the bozos quite a big lump of money. Very frustrating!!!

I don't think the rides are bad at all but that's me. It's hard to describe when everyone has a different level of tolerance.

The rides aren't "bad", they're like normal rides. The roller coasters go fast, the motion simulators bounce you around, the slower "dark" rides go through various scenes and the water rides get you wet.

EDIT: Heck, even Poseidon's Fury (a special effects show) has warnings saying it is dark and loud in some places, so that parents don't sue because their kid got scared.

SeaWorld takes the award for strangest "warnings" on their kid rides. The carousel says you must have 2 functioning limbs to ride and another says you can't ride is you have unsecured prosthetics if you're a double amputee above the knee. Very obsure!

That's actually true on all rides. You must have at least 1 upper extremity to grasp the ride restraint.
