Ok, so, my DH and I were planning on starting to expand our family after our trip to DL for DDs b-day. Oops, it happened already and we just found out I am 5 weeks along. I will be about 7 when we head down for 3 days. I am really excited, but, a bit bummed about which rides I will be able to go on. Does anyone know about the following rides:
1. Pirates of the Carribbean
2. Tower of Terror
3. Splash Mountain
4. Space Mountain
5. Matterhorn
6. Soarin'
7. Splash Mountain
I know most say not to ride if you are pregnant, but, I wasn't sure if it was for health reasons or fitting in the ride reasons...

I am also planning on checking with my doctor before we go.

Thanks.

Congrats!

1. Pirates of the Carribbean- probably fine. Just the couple small drops, not a big deal.
2. Tower of Terror- wouldnt do it!
3. Splash Mountain- not sure on this one- it is pretty gentle even with the big drop. But, its getting ready for refurb and might not even be running during your trip.
4. Space Mountain- NO! Dont do it.
5. Matterhorn- Another NO! Dont do it- way to jerky and rough.
6. Soarin'- not a problem at all.
7. Splash Mountain- didn't we talk about that in number 2? ;)
I know most say not to ride if you are pregnant, but, I wasn't sure if it was for health reasons or fitting in the ride reasons... HEALTH. You dont want bumping, jarring and g-force rides!

Linda,
Thanks for the Info. I guess that leaves Indiana Jones out too. According to the calendar Splash Mountain will still be open. We were really going to start trying when we got home. Oops. Oh well, little adjustments can be made.

Yeah, I would stay off from Indy, big Thunder and Screamin' ( not on your orginal list). Have a great trip! I'm sure you'll find plenty to do, even if you can do the big rides!

Congratulations!!!!

Pirates is defintely fine, as is Soarin. My friend that is 36 weeks just went on Soarin with me two weeks ago!! There are no bad movements.

This just gives you an excuse to come back quickly with the baby and use the baby swap pass to get on all the big ones you missed!!

Those rides will still be there and this is so worth it!! Have a great time!

Andrea

It is finally sinking in that I am really Pregnant and we are really happy. I don't normally do Screamin', Big Thunder and alot of the other superfast rides because I have really bad motion sickness to begin with. So, this is a really good excuse. There are plenty of other things to do while we are there that I can keep myself busy. I told my DH that I can shop while he is riding.

1. Pirates of the Carribbean: The first two drops are most likely ok; they really aren't that bad at all, although since the rehab, the 1st one seems a little steeper.
2. Tower of Terror: Skip!
3. Splash Mountain: No need to worry about this one; it will be closed for repairs from 1/23 until early May.
4. Space Mountain: Skip it!
5. Matterhorn: This one just recently reopened; not sure if it's any smoother than before, but you should probably avoid this one.
6. Soarin': You'll be fine.
7. Thunder Mountain: Skip this one (if that's what you meant to type instead of Splash)
DEFINITELY skip Indy Jones; although it is one of my favorites, it is probably the jerkiest ride in the park. As you pointed out, there is still plenty to do even if you miss these rides. Have a great time and congrats!

I've done them all about 3 mo pregnant. I wasn't showing but still felt sick - which isn't normal for me at all. I was fine. I think it would only be a problem if you're further along (larger) or not in good health to begin with. Disney won't allow you to do so if they know because they want no liability, but I bet your Dr. would okay it.

I just figured it out. I was 17 weeks. No one could tell I was pregnant.:ssst:

I went on the following rides when I was 8 weeks preg. w/DD.

1. Pirates of the Carribbean
5. Matterhorn
6. Soarin'
and
Star Tours.

The only thing that I can think of from Soarin or Star tours would be nausa/motion sickness.

My OB told me to avoid things with real "drops".

I am going to my Dr. on Tuesday, so, hopefully I will know more. I am having some morning sickness, but my aunt is a nurse and got me a bracelet that is supposed to help with it.

I'm with junglejoy. My SIL was able to go on all rides -- after checking with her doctor, natch -- when she was 10 weeks. That includes two back-to-back rides on Screamin'. If there are rides that made you ill before pregnancy, by all means, keep avoiding those. :) Otherwise, congrats to you and your husband. Have a great time!

Thanks for all your responses. I just got the go ahead to go on all the rides at DL. He said he would be concerned if we were going to Magic Mountain, but, DL should be fine. Says the baby is well protected enough to handle anything. Good thing I get motion sickness for those big rides.

GLad to hear it! I did all the rides you mentioned when I was 7 weeks pregnant with my 3rd son as I did not know I was pregnant yet when we went to DL (I know, odd... but I have very irregular cycles :confused3 ).

That child has ended up being my real thrill seaker child (rode tower at age 3.5, and Screamin' at age 5 since he was tall enough). :scared1:
